In the city of Wheeling, West Virginia, a city with a population of near 38,000 people, local doctors went on a strike. The doctors didn't go on strike because they were sick of the cafeteria food. The doctors went on strike due to the climax in price of malpractice insurance.
To this day, even when the bill has been passed, there is only one company that is offering insurance. (this company is operating on near red income) The doctors spurred other strikes statewide, and even inspired doctors and lawmakers in nearby Ohio and Pennsylvania.
In this area of the country it is not unusual to be watching the television and see a constant ten minute block of lawyer advertisements during your favorite television program. In downtown Wheeling there have been many changes also. The courthouse has been expanded because of the need for more offices. There has also been a new large office building built to accomodate a company of lawyers.
Urgent action must be made to stop the infestation of lawyers and lower the malpractice insurance!
