2009 Outage Party
Posted by incubus on Saturday, February 07 @ 22:39:48 UTC (68821 reads)
detonate.net! So we had another outage. The current detbox is a bit shoddy. Anyway it gave up the ghost and the hero admin who looks after the colo its in has loaned me a machine to keep it up and running. Again, plan is to get it on 2 boxes across 2 colos, it will happen eventually. Footnote: Im starting to think we should just bin most of this site and move to a simple forum. Keeping the posts around would be hard, migrating the accounts would be easy though. What do you think? -- incubus

Giuliani Confronted At New York Fundraiser
Posted by incubus on Wednesday, November 07 @ 09:06:40 UTC (84854 reads)
Politics BlackFlag writes:

NEW YORK -- A radical group at a Bronx fundraiser confronted Rudolph Giuliani on Tuesday morning, accusing him of being one of the "criminals of 9/11."

The Republican candidate for president was outside City Island's Sea Shore restaurant in the Bronx, speaking with WNBC.com's Adam Shapiro about his fundraising in New York.

Afterward, a young woman claiming to be the relative of a Sept. 11, 2001, firefighter who died when the towers collapsed, asked Giuliani why he allegedly told Peter Jennings the towers would fall that day, but did not stop the rescue efforts of firefighters and police officers.

detonate.net! Some of you may know, we're planning to move Detnet onto a vBulletin forum. While the database magic to make this happen is pretty much done, we're still missing one thing - skinning vB to look like the Detnet we know and hate.

Is anyone competent enough to skin vB to the same quality as our current (hacked) phpBB skin?

Would love to hear from you.

3 hours downtime my ass!
Posted by incubus on Saturday, November 03 @ 15:07:40 UTC (481103 reads)
detonate.net! Talk about a server move gone wrong...

There was meant to be some routine maintenance in the datacentre the detbox is hosted in. Sadly, while the move seemed to work, something fishy happened with the box. This is doubly annoying because detnet has actually sneakily been on new hardware for a couple of months, I did the move early one morning.

The outage has been made worse because, well, I've been on holiday in Amsterdam for the last five days - I had limited Internet access while I was there (hmm....) and getting hold of help has been hard.

Everything should be back now. Read on for more info.

Glitch in the Matrix

detonate.net! We had a couple of hours downtime just now. The server is still the venerable old CrustMaster 2000(tm) and it decided to fry a random component. Luckily, I had a friend onsite who took time out of his day (and components) to get the detbox back. In other news, I do have new kit for the server, in fact 2 new servers :) but I need to sort time/courier/etc to get them deployed. Don't watch this space, your eyes will dry up. Laters, incubus

The Z key broke off my laptop's keyboard a few days ago. It doesn't really bother me though. I find that I don't use the key that often in the first place. I think the younger kids use it a lot more then I do and if it happened to them, they would either 1) be pissed off or 2) learn to use english more good. Now I'm not the most best grammer speaking guy in the first place but I also dont race carzzz and lolzzzz whenz imz in the hizzzzouse. Anyway, the point of the story is that I tryed to put the key back on and ended up breaking it even further, so now I must resort to using superglue. Craappthekeysdzaree all stucck toigethewer now. Ok so I accidently spilled glue on the keyboard and the keys wont move anymore, so I just had to hook up an external keyboard which is probably better in the long run because I think that laptop keyboard was starting to give me carpul tunnel syndrome. Now all I need is an external mouse and a monitor and a docking station. I forgot to mention the battery on the laptop doesnt work so I have to keep it plugged into the wall anytime. So its not really a laptop although I can keep it on my lap, it usally just sits on my bed. It does have a wireless card though. The important thing is that I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time...

Bush Administation Breaks Record! - The Budget
Posted by jon on Wednesday, November 23 @ 14:39:43 UTC (119090 reads)
Politics JR2000Z writes:
Borrows More from Foreign Nations than
Previous 42 Presidents Combined

WASHINGTON, DC -- President George W. Bush and the current administration have now borrowed more money from foreign governments and banks than the previous 42 U.S. presidents combined, which the Blue Dog Coalition in the House of Representatives called “astounding.

Throughout the first 224 years (1776-2000) of our nation’s history, 42 U.S. presidents borrowed a combined $1.01 trillion from foreign governments and financial institutions according to the U.S. Treasury Department. In the past four years alone (2001-2005), the Bush Administration has borrowed a staggering $1.05 trillion.

"The seriousness of this rapid and increasing financial vulnerability of our country can hardly be overstated, said Rep. John Tanner (TN), a leader of the Blue Dog Coalition and member of the House Ways and Means Committee. “The financial mismanagement of our country by the Bush Administration should be of concern to all Americans, regardless of political persuasion.

The Blue Dogs have long expressed tremendous concern over mounting U.S. debt and are particularly troubled by our growing dependence on foreign governments to finance our debt. Earlier this year, the Coalition offered a 12 Step Plan to cure our nation’s addiction to deficit spending. The Blue Dog plan required, among other things, that all federal agencies pass clean audits, a balanced budget, and the establishment of a rainy day fund to be used in the event of a natural disaster.

“No American political leadership has ever willfully and deliberately mortgaged our country to foreign interests in the manner we have witnessed over the past four years, continued Rep. Tanner. “If this recklessness is not stopped, I truly believe our economic freedom as American citizens is in great jeopardy."

The Blue Dog Coalition is a group of 36 conservative to moderate House Democrats focused on fiscal responsibility.
