A couple weeks ago, my one teacher asked me whether I wanted to go to the auditon for some children's opera. I said "why not?" and went, together with my friend. Though we're both rather too old (18) and I was on the verge of being too tall (170 cm) they gave us some small roles. Coolish. Our teacher warned us not to promise them anything until we saw the rehearsal plan because we're going to write finals in February and all that... fine so far.

Now, today was the first rehearsal. I took a look at the rehearsal schedule and realized it was a lot of time. I took a look at what we were supposed to do and realized that it wasn't much (uh, crossing the stage twice with a fox mask... and singing 4 lines in choir). I took a look at the music and realized it was strange. I took a look at the 12-year-old kids there and felt soooo incredibly old. But still, I thought it might be some fun and worth while.

Then, it turns out someone had screwed things up. Each role had been given to two people because there's supposed to be alternate casts, but somehow mine had been given to three people. So, looking straight into the eye of truth, there was one person too much. The director was "trying to find a solution"... I told him that as things were, it would be most practical if it was me who quit. The little ones have more time, and they're smaller, and they fit in better, and they probably have looked forward to it MUCH more than me. He seemed rather glad not to have to kick someone out... so that was it.

I know I did the right thing. I am sort of glad I'll have all the time I had planned for that project on my hands now, because it means I can really start taking up dance classes again in January. I have all the above reasons.

Why the hell am I still feeling crappy and sad now???
