wtf? why do Via chipsets have to be so goddamn difficult? EVERY m/b I work with that uses Via has SOME sort of weird quirk.

Right now I have one that corrupts the registry when I try and install the Via 4-in-1 drivers...

WHAT THE FUCK???

arrrrghhhh....

I read it a while ago, but had no need to respond. I can't relate to your problem. I don't use Via chipsets. I'm all sorts of high-and-mighty and better than everyone because I don't hold a grudge against intel chipsets. I find them worthwhile.

I do have a Via chipset at work that is just fine. It is running a P120 in a desktop case. You know, the ones you put your monitor on? No real troubles with it.

thanks, dkb.

Intel chipsets rule. I'm all for them. I like the i815E better than the BX though - it's faster, includes built-in video (making it good for making a cheap second box0r) and AGP4X (for making your supapimp Primary box0r).

Yeah, I know you can OC the BX to 133MHz, but the i815 runs just as fast as the BX at that speed and you're not overclocking... one less thing to worry about when your system isn't working right

Of course, none of this applies if you run an Athlon like I do. But for the record, I stuck with the original Slot A Athlon so I could use the AMD 751 chipset. Now that the 761 is out I'll probably upgrade soon... though I might wait for Sledgehammer (K8) to come out...

I must agree with cr0. They are so magically delicous. They do have some shortcomings, but nothing of large proportions. [homer]Mmmmmmmmmmmm....intel gooooodnesssss...[/homer]

Linux does not get along with Via chipsets either. For some reason when you "Enable DMA by default" you get corrupted FX's. And it is still not entirely worked out. VIA has about 80\% of the market and they WANK SO FUCKING HARD! I use cheapie ALI, SIS, and Intel chipsets.

I do love Intel Chipsets, as well.

Untill recently it's all I've ever owned.

But now I have my Abit VP6 built on the VIA chipset. It is the best motherboard I've ever owned!! Maybe I just got lucky....

ALi made what is possibly the best Super 7 chipset ever. I don't recall the exact name, but the ASUS P5A used it. I don't know how many FIC VA503+ m/bs I replaced with it...
