My ICQ is on authorization request, because I do not want every pervert and moron to add me to his list randomly. When someone I know asks nicely (i.e. when a detnetter requests authorization) I will surely grant it, as long as I know who it is and people are friendly.

However, in the last 24 hours I received two "user has added you to his contact list" messages, without ever having seen an authorization request. I know there are hacks to get into my comp like that, but it is scary!!! (Especially as one of the two adresses was some "women for free" thing...) What can I do to prevent this in the future? For now I moved the guys onto my ignore list, but that is not going to keep other people from doing the same...

And something else: Two days ago, I got a request for authorization from user Bart\/Solid, reason: solid@detonate.net. As solid is a fellow detnetter, I permitted him to add me to his contact list and in turn requested authorization from him. This morning I get back to my comp and here's what ICQ tells me:
"Bart\/Solid
The user has denied your request to add him/her to your Contact List
The following reason was given:
you are LOSE
dont messag me again, slut"

If anybody (and this includes you, solid!) could tell me what that is supposed to be, I'd be VERY grateful...

Anyway, I start being seriously pissed off by all this ICQ stuff. Any help/advice/hacks/consolation is very welcome!

Good news and bad news:

The ICQ auth hack is widely published. It's a fucking STUPID thing that ICQ decided to put that feature in the CLIENT and not the SERVER. I mean, all the ICQ clients for Linux dont even need to authrise to add to a list...

...now as for your denial from solid, I hope he was smoking crack or something, 'cos that was a shitty thing to say. And no, hacker's can't do that.

Least he was lucky that you are a little nieve about icq... you could have done nasty things to his computer. I know I would have.

I've used Miranda before several times. It's buggy, lacks features, and is about as good as the one built into Opera.

It's good in theory, but not in practice. Plus, all the uber-l33t SMS features are missing.

Miranda springs to mind as the kid who uses linux because he hates microsoft but he doesnt actually know how to use linux so gets nothing done.

Not a dig at anyone, just an analogy.

Still, if you like it. Go with it. I'm not the thought police.

I've mentioned this before, so it is at the risk of sounding repetative that I recommend trillian, the combination instant messager of love.

Holy fucking shit- IM REALLY REALLY SORRY.
Ask Minus, or my friend t-man or MCPhoenix, I was at a cybercafe and I logged in icq over there, but forgot to remove the account once I was done, I just went down to the place today and removed the account, once again, I apologize for that.

Edit: This obviously means that someone else must've denied authorization.
