Oh I am pissed-- no wait I AM BEYOND PISSED OFF! And I realize that in part I have done this to myself. But heres the story.I post on a message board for soon to be 1Ls (i.e. first year law students). Most of them like to discuss where they have been accepted and where they have not been accepted to school. As most of you can guess there are an awful lot of soon to be Yale and Harvard Law students. Ok fine! Here is my problem - US News ranks law schools into tiers for recruitment purposes mostly. The schools in the top 50 are the most difficult to get into and are also the most recuited by law firms for students once they have graduated. There are four tiers in all (for your information I am going to a tier three school- yeah yeah I know) The problem with most of the assholes on this board is that they believe that you can in no way get a decent education unless you attend a top 30 (yeah not even 50) school. The thought process is that you will never get into a decent law firm any place and that you will be doomed to making 50,000 a year for the rest of your natural life. Well you know what I say to that FUCK YOU!
Just because Im not attending fucking Harvard, Yale, Stanford, NYU, or Columbia doesnt mean Im doomed to be a failure as a lawyer. Also if the only reason you are going to law school is to make money well then my friends you have a tough road to travel. WHY IN GODS NAME WOULD YOU SPEND 120,000 for law school when you are gonna end up HATING your job...I hate these fucking pricks who are only in law school for the bucks. I say get your MBA it takes less time and you would make the same amount of money. NO wonder people think lawyers are sharks and only in for the cash bounty. GOd knows if that was my reason I would NOT have gone to law school- I would have been a stock broker or something. GEEZ! what happened to becoming a lawyer for the love of the law...what happened to doing something you love. what happened to decency and intigrity in a field. I AM NOT A WASTE OF SPACE damn it and just because Im not going to a top tier school doesnt make my law degree any less valuable then someone from Yale or Stanford.
Perhaps this rant would not be so important if I was going to NYU or Fordham or something but the truth is that I NEVER EVER wanted to go into law to make money. Its a benefit not a reason- I cant see working 80 hours a week for a paycheck and NOT LOVING my job- 150,000 a year for a job you hate---tell me whats the point of wasting three years of your life for that...
