Ok heres the deal---
I graduated from Albany officially in December 2000---makes me a proud 2000 graduate (yippy fucking doo). When I went to go get my cap and gown in december there was no one there to help me- so you have to pray you buy the right one- in addition no hood (whole point is to get a hood after you get your BA otherwises its like HS graduation all over again) ANYWAY they also didnt have my white tassle for my major (which all of you know was sociology) I was PEEVED!
Now because I was a wonderful december graduate I also get the honor of attending May graduation (oh yippy)- this time I went down to the book store and got my hood and tassle from the dorkus behind the counter and asked "So why no hoods for December graduates" and he says "Its not really a graduation so they dont order them" and I just looked awed at him like "Um NO!"

SO tell me how can that be that I finished up my BA in december and went to something resembling a graduation ceremony but according to the school bookstore it was just smoke and mirrors? This completely diminishes anyone who graduated early from college by telling them that their "graduation ceremony" wasnt really anything more then a bunch of people getting together and looking like their were graduating---also I dont get my fucking diploma until after the "Graduation Ceremony" this May- how fucked is that?

This school has some issues.

That's all a graduation ceremony really is... smoke an mirrors. And, it's a chance for your family to take pictures of you in a robe.

Hell, I didn't get my diploma until about a month ago... I graduated May 2000. But, that one was my fault... something about huge outstanding debts.

I dunno if i'll even go again next year (assuming i pass)

OR...for people who sucked and didn't graduate in '99 and had to take an extra semester to finish...hehe maybe that's why it wasn't all that.

Perhaps---
If anything thou it was a semester late (they still would have been 2000 graduates just in May instead of December)
But its some accomplishment to graduate early but I reckon that most of the people who were at the december "graduation" ceremony were late graduates.
I am just peeved that in the eyes of the bookstore it wasnt really graduation and not that I am attending the May ceremony (just the recognition ceremony for the soc department) its the principle of the thing....

That is a fucking load of shit.

I know that I would be seriously pissed off if I was told that.

My uni has divisional graduation ceremonies at the start of the year (Eng and Sci, Health Sci etc..) and a compilation of everyone halfway through the year.

The majority of students graduate at the beginning of the year (which is why its by divisions), and a smaller amount half way through the year (they lump them all together).

They all wear the same things. The gowns, the sash, the motarboard (if you want to).

The only difference is the time, and the size.

<RANT>
When I was getting my regalia to graduate from honours, the stupid people at the desk tried to sell me the normal pass degree sash instead of the honours one. Idiots. I had to go and get proof that I had graduated from honours. I thought that it had all been taken care of.
</RANT>

To finish, it is you right to be pissed off at this.

u pittsburgh doesn't do hoods for bachelor's degrees.

BA and BS degrees are cap, gown and tassel. master's degrees get a hood, and PhDs are velvet trimmed hoods.

they gave us some kind of book that explains all that stuff, but i didn't read it. i was happy enough to get my orange tassle and listen to the freakin surgeon general talk for what seemed like hours. do all the sit, stand, sit, stand, sit, stand, walk, stand, sit, stand, sit, stand, leave stuff on cue (what am i a dolphin?)

but anyway, after an hour of standing outside, an hour of standing inside, getting 400000 pictures taken, 2 1/2 more hours of sitting/standing/walking inside, and the nightmare 20 minutes to get out of the parking lot, the cap and gown and all just got thrown in a box, with the little piece of paper that assured me i had a degree in "FACSIMILIE", and the hundred or so page program where they managed to spell my name correctly. oh boy.

a week later i found out i actually graduated.

what was weird with my grad, tho, was that in the bunch of crap they gave us along with our degrees, was a letter congratulating us as being members of the class of 2001... i was always under the impression that i was in the class of 2000

It may work differently for each school but from what I remembered about the differences in each program (BA, BS, Masters, Phd) are as follows
BA\BS gets a hood with 3 inches of velvet trim along with a cap and gown

Masters degree gets a hood with 3 1\2 inches of velvet trim along with a gown with flared sleeves and a cap (of course)

Phd gets a hood with 4inches of velvet trim along with a funky hat and a the flared gown.

That was the information I recieved in my cap\gown crap

Ok so it turns out my mom is coming up for the recognition ceremony next weekend and she said she would attend graduation also...(that means another ceremony- dont I have better things to do...)Im having trouble figuring out how to get this stupid hood to look (maybe Im retarded 4 years of college and I cant figure it out what have they prepared me for...)
