Ok, first off, I have to say that I really love this game. Very open ended. I'm so torn as to explore the online world of NWN or keep playing the single player campaign since both are really, really good.
Second, how many of you have a copy?
Third, what do you think about setting up an offical Detonate.net 24/7 persistant NWN server? We could theme the areas with classic members' names, like Kuru's Armory, CatKnight Prison, etc, etc. Just a thought that I had.

Completely free to play online (well, there is your ISP fee, but that doesn't count). They (BioWare) does not host any online servers themselves. Users like you and I are the ones who run the servers. This will lead to sooo much variety in gameplay, that I won't be suprised to see this game last as long if not longer than Half Life has. Just image it: a just_dave cave for you to control and populate with all the creatures you want

BUY THIS GAME
I don't buy much software, and when I do, it's because it is good and at a reasonable price. This game is very good. It is as a reasonablish price (could be $10 lower if you ask me, but it JUST came out). Don't bother downloading it. Just get in your car/cab/bus/shoes and goto a store and buy it. Support the games/companies that make good products and run an ethical business (BioWare) and pirate the bad software from companies that are unethical (Any MS product). That is how you encourage more good games to be made.

people who dont pay for even the good games make me sick. whats the point in taking the money away from the peopel who have actually got the skill and commitment to put together something thats really good for once. you're the kind of people that hold the industry back.
Operation flashpoint forever. i have no sympathy for the people who got their illegal copies fucked cos of the implemented FADE system.

This game is the end all be all to RPG's in my opinion.
I own 2 copies, and so does my neighbor. We have a wireless lan between our 2 houses and me, my wife, him, and his wife have been playing the single player campaign in multiplayer co-op mode. It's a blast.
Me: Ranger Wife: Paladin Neighbor: Monk His Wife: Monk
I've already have plans to be bringing up a persistant world here pretty soon. Been working on the scripting etc, etc.. pretty much everyday, since the 4 of us have agreed to only play together. So when anyone of us are unavailable to play, I'm glued to my PC making enviroments with my world builder guid at my side.
I've been pretty much designing my world around my guild though: http://www.firstorder.net/
Making a persistant world isn't easy in a game like this. At least if you want it to have goals, etc... etc... So I'm working towards having more than 1 player factions. This way there be some nice PVP options, as well as dungeon crawls, wooded quests, and some pretty sweet cities I've already included....
This game is just so much fun. The thing that sucks most about creating the world, is it's not much fun to play in your own world. So I guess I'll DM'ing it most of the time, which could work out really welll...
i.e. possesing an NPC and convincing Faction 1 that they need to do this quest for me at X location, then posses an NPC and tell Faction 2 the same thing, but have them enter at a different location.
Then basically they both fight their way to the depths of the dungeon ultimately colliding at some point for a HUGE battle royal!!!
Then.... Before everyone dies, maybe a spawn a dragon near-by and the teams end up having to work together to defeat the dragon... etc.. etc...
Man, this game sure knows how to make you feel like a geek.
FYI: I've never played a Pen and Paper D&D game in my life, but from what I've heard, NWN is the closest you can get.

I agree ... I decided against downloading this one because well two reasons:
1: it isnt M$
2: Sounds like it rocks world and if I pay for it and have to wait to buy it it will be worth the wait when I get it to play it ..
I know what you mean I have one game I downloaded, thats because some prick stole my cd .... i know who it was and after repeatedly beating his arse he still wont admit it ...
ohh well i quit playing it anyways ..
