Viestran-
It came back to the theater last night, so I checked it out again. I will agree that there are some Hollywood elements. I still disagree with the porn equation. The entire time I sat there, I never thought it was gratuitous. In fact, I kept thinking about the great training qualities the film had. You learn best from mistakes and this just showcases individual, small unit and MDMP errors. I plan on watching it again before a large training event, to remphasize (to myself) what not to do. (I'm going to admit that the job has probably biased me.)

Concerning filthy,
I don't necessarily think that Scott and Bruckheimer were making an anti-war film. I feel that they were trying to make a film that resembled a battle, as closely as possible, that also told a very human story. Hypocrisy would be if they were preaching (Jonny got his gun) and reveled in the horror. I'm not convinced that is the case.

As for the Somali POV, the book didn't have much of theirs either. When I saw the film, I just saw them drop. To me, that doesn't mean they died. Case in point, the scene in the HWMMV where the LTC turns around and sees the all the injured who had been on the 50. They were just lying there, but if I remember correctly, they weren't all dead.

Some observations.

Sorry about starting a new thread but the other got hijacked by eminem.

Oddest thing today- Mercedes A class with an AMG label on the back.

You make some good points. I'm not saying I didn't like the movie, and by comparing it to porn, it's more of the fact that the movie seemed to have been made solely for the visuals...(which in some places seemed a bit like exaggerations of the truth) with no regard for the plot... like porn.

im curious to know what you guys thought of Behind Enemy Lines if you've seen it.  Seemed to be accurate in alot of ways, though there's no way in fuck an admiral would be getting on a rescue copter to go save a downed pilot.  no fucking way.  XO would have a fucking fit.
