I dl'ed some videos last night in .avi format *cough*FoTR*cough* They're labeled filename[divx](1-2).avi.
When I try to run them, Media Player opens, and it says they're playing, but I get no video or sound. I dl'ed the divx 5.02 bundle codec, but still nothing.
Any ideas? Or, failing that, anyone have FoTR?

Try getting the Nimo Codec Pack... I had some problems with a file like that and it fixed it... it has newer AC3 for audio...

Actually, I still get a lot of shit when using codec packs like that. I find the easiest way to go is to download the free divx player, not the pro version, which is quite functional and free of registration messages considering it's a product of the evil, time-trial-offer corporate machine. They don't have a direct link on the website anymore, but here's where the totally ad free version is:

The front end page for the Nimo one is kinda shady, but it is very popular and fixes many issues... not everyone does everything in DivX... there is Xvid, AC3, etc...

Good place for a few ideas.

When I started out I downloaded a whole shit load of codecs. It solved the problems you're getting, but I have no idea what exact codec it was.

Is a great site for codecs and utilities.

one...this is kind of like elementary school. Do not start the test until you've read all of the directions. And stop eating your paste.
Seriously, though, I got the nemo, no dice. Will check yours out this afternoon Shaker.

Bleah. 5.02 = evil.
Stick to 4.x codecs for now until the crap with 5.x gets ironed out ... too many issues with older DivX and the spyware issue doesn't help it much IMO.
