I need some opinions from other geeks (geeks used very loosely) how good dvd-rw drives are to see if i should get one.
edit: I need it to save many home movies. Also to use as a primary backup device.

best wait till the idiots decide on a universal standard. Theres about 7 different ones at the moment and they're all being replaced by updated versions requiring new drives

they've finally gotten blue laser diodes to the point where you can put them in a drive have they?
as far as the 27gigs, well yeah, I mean look at how narrow the bandwidth is for blue light.

Next thing y'know they will have 50GB HDDs in home computers! Why would anybody ever need that much space ...that's cazy. Why would you ever need more then 64K of RAM?
