I would say desktops. They are easier to upgrade and arent all cramped up. Get you a nice desktop with a nice big monitor and cable modem and thats all you need.

Laptops are neat, there's something about how well integrated everything is that makes them erotic. That said, they're generally a year or two behind desktop hardware in terms of capability (want a laptop, seems the best you can do for cpus is about 1.2GHz whereas high-end desktops are about the 2gHz mark (not that ghz is a real good performance metric, but you know what I mean))
If you don't need too much performance they're fine. And erotic.
PDAs tend to be even more erotic, but I must say, i'm not sure what I would actually *use* one for if I got one.

Why am I the only person voting for laptop!?
They rule.
When I made this poll i guessed most people would vote for laptop even if they don't have one.
When I posted this 4 people voted for desktops, 1 (me) person for laptops, and 0 for pda's.

I got two "desktops" (I guess you can call them that) and one PDA. I've been considering selling my current PDA (a palm IIIxe) and picking up one of those linux based ones (Yopy or something), just to be uber geek chic
I'd love a laptop, but I'm looking more for something that's just bigger then a PDA, but easier to use while carrying then a laptop. A webpad! YEAH! GO TRANSMETA!! But where the fuck are they?!?

go epods. too bad they went of buisness, you can find them for about 200 on like ebay from time to time, they used to sell for about as much, but no more.

that's interesting, but I'm looking more for one of the transmeta crusoe ones, namely with that kickass embedded linux stuff. I saw one when I was visiting my friend at the local cisco place (gotta love RDU's RTP), and it was fucking awsome.

Ive worked on laptops at my work. They are nice to check your email and surf the net on but if you want to play games and do spreadsheets you might want to hook up a monitor and peripherals. With a workstation you have everything already.
At my old job a few of the execs thought they "liked" laptops until we ordered them some of those slimlines they kept bugging about. We ended up shipping them back because EVERYTHING had to be hooked up externally to the laptop. The smaller and smaller they get the more I dont like them.
