I am trying to network the 2 computers in my house so my parent and I can share our DSL. Now, my problem is that I can't get the metwork running. I have all the right hardware (2 network cards, not including the one for the DSL modem, and a crossover cable (CAT 5)). I've assigned IP's and the whole fucking business, but I can't get it to work. Someone please help me out!

get Winroute running on the computer that has DSL (its a DHCP thingy), and and set the other computer on "recieve IP address" .. .er wahtever.. (its actually a lot harder than im making it out to be)
and thats how it will work out ...

i personally have never done the crossover cable thing... but you can prally get a hub for like ฤ somewhere.. (a crappy one like the one i have..)

jeez man.. o just woek up 3 secs ago... so im not exactly into the details right now ..

Oh, ho, ho, irony! Oh, no, no, we don't get that here. See, uh, people ski topless here while smoking dope, so irony's not really a high priority. We haven't had any irony here since about, uh, '83, when I was the only practitioner of it. And I stopped because I was getting tired of being stared at.

We set up a 4 person LAN last night in my apartment with internet sharing. I put a second NIC in my computer, and turned on Internet Sharing on the Broadband connection. It all automatically worked when everybody set their computers to DHCP.

Win2K rules.

If you have Win98 or WinME, you can install Internet Connection Sharing {ICS from now on; it's too damn long) from the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog in the Control Panel. From there, it guides you through the process, and helps you make a disk to set it up on other computers. Only install ICS on the computer you want to be the gateway (please tell em you know what that is) and use the disk on the other computer. I never did the cable thing; I just got a Netgear hub and plugged two cables in.

I wouldn't know anything about your broadband though... I figured out how to do this in hopes that my parents would fork over the cash for DSL or Cable, but no, I'm stuck sharing a 56k. Good thing is, I can disable the sharing.
