well, the my last day of work was on monday, so i finally got to take home a dvd-rom from the office.
i got it plugged in and everything, and the sound works (music cd works).
but when i put in a dvd (Fight club) a error message pops up telling me i need a dvd-decoder.
now, i dont want to buy one, and i hear you can get a software decoder, but i cant find any! so, can someone please tell me where in the hell i can download one?

sys specs:
Pentium 3 @ 667MHz - its evil
300 megs of ram (but when i boot, it says ive got 324 o_O)
Toshiba DVD-rom SD-M1212

thanks in advance.

Quick question first: how did you get only 300 Megs of memmory? I can't figure out the combination of memmory sizes, and I really don't want to waste that much more time on it.

Ok, onto your question. A software decoder will work on you system just fine since you have a powerful enough CPU and enough memmory. I don't really know where to get a software decoder seperatly though, since they are usually sold only with DVD-ROMs, usually in kits. What I can suggest is to play around on Bearshare( http://www.bearshare.com ) or try Morpheus ( http://www.morpheus.com ). Try looking for programs like PowerDVD. You'll also need to find a serial number for whatever program you download. Try Serialz 2000 (sorry, don't have URL). That will let you watch DVDs on your computer.

I've had problems with PowerDVD, but WinDVD has done me no wrong. You can by it directly from InterVideo.

Paramount Technology, my old work, sells it for less than ฤ. Email anton@paramounttechnology.com or call (925) 825-4046. Tell them Jon referred you

Oh yeah - please don't use the forums to trade or solicit trades for software.

The Hollywood Plus by Sigma Designs is a top-notch hardware decoder. Plus there's a program being developed (and released as updated) to let you play DivX movies through the TV-out on the decoder card. It's called DivXPlus. It's available through www.vcdhelp.com

I have no idea. But you've just proven that our school system sucks.
