anyone know of any common mistakes when configuring it for uploading to a site.

the isp says the upload address is

upload.ntlworld.com

i've tried:
upload.ntlworld.com
ftp.upload.ntlworld.com
ftp://upload.ntlworld.com
ftp://ftp.upload.ntlworld.com

both on annon and normal login.

u definitely need the username and password

but i cant think of anything else to make the bugger connect

the error its getting is cant resolve host name.

i tried the crappy bloatware that the isp is giving out but i don't really like having that piece of shit near my system for long even if it does work

and that connects on upload.ntlworld.com on annon login but this doesnt work for cuteftp.

grr alcohol makes me want to punch ntl the bastards!

Cannot resolve host name sounds like a intermittant DNS error. Try the IP 62.253.162.29 instead.

Get a proper FTP client like LeechFTP or DOS.

And if youre behind a firewall make sure you enable passive (PASV) mode.

I prefer flashfxp myself. Leech is good, but it's no longer being developed(and hasn't been for 2 years now).

So is SmartFTP. Still being developed. The other (not free) client I use is BulletProofFTP. Mostly because of the was it can handle a global queue and HTTP downloads.

Um  ...IE5 can be used as an FTP client, and it's free.  Just make sure you enable FTP under Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and then type the URL of the ftp site like ftp://ftp.server.com
Then drag and drop baby!!

Maybe I shoulda said "n00b friendly".  IE is by no means the best FTP client around (My personal fav is WS_FTP Pro) but IE is the hands down winner for idiot-proof.  Just drag your file into the browser window.  I still like the command prompt FTP as well.  It is easier to write batch files for command line FTPing then most any other client.
