I'm terribly, terribly, TERRIBLY confused over something going on with my kernels. Today I tried to upgrade to 2.4.1, and all went well. But I couldn't use any ppp connection software for my modem because pppd wouldn't open ppp0. then I reboot, booted 2.4.0, and now it's fine like nothing happened. I did compile some new code for a ethernet card I have in the machine (I'm going to be setting up this box as a router so when I get my windows box running I can go on the 'net and use my 20GB drive to house mp3's, etc.), but I don't think that has anything to do with it.
I didn't go through the entire config, I just loaded my config from 2.4.0 and added the stuff for the eth0 card, but I don't think there were changes that big between the kernels to cause a problem like that. Any ideas?

Need I point out the obvious? Stick with v.2.4.0, unless 2.4.1 added something that you absolutely must have.

damien - that's what I was figuring I'd have to do. I was just trying to figure out why pppd wasn't working all because of a kernel upgrade that really did nothing more then add a driver for a eth. card. I guess I'll wait'll 2.4.2...
a.out - That was one of the first things I checked for (ppp support) after it didn't work. Normally I go through the whole config when I upgrade kernels, but I was just being lazy.
side note - I've read that once "2.5.x" goes stable, it'll either be 3.0 or 2.6... any ideas? which do you all think would be better (for the community or something)? I think 3.0 would be cooler, cuz then we could do goofy images in Gimp of some pengiuns playing baseball and hitting the ball through some Windows, and under it say "Linux 3"... of course, you could do that with any kernel, but 3's my favorite number
