Ok, let me just get this off my chest: "Damn, I hate Linksys". Can I say that again? "Damn, I hate Linksys". Ok, now, I've got a wireless network set up. I hate Linksys' wireless products. I've got a wireless ap cable/dsl router. A computer is phsically connected to that. On my computer, I have a Wireless USB network adapter. I have a third computer with no usb ports, and I don't want to buy linksys' wireless eth card. Linksys said that it should work if I pop a normal eth card in each computer, and hook up the two with cat5. First of all, will this work? Secondly, I've got some problems installing the eth card in this box. I physically inserted it, win98 doesn't autodetect it, so I add it via the hardware wizard. On bootup it tells me the device is not functioning properly, and it seems to conflict with the wusb11 (wireless usb adapter). Any way to get this fixed, any suggestions? Of course, if you're sure that my previously described network setup won't work, don't bother telling me.

yeah... just go to a store, and say "I need a cross over cable". They'll say "how long?" and you'll say "<general distance between two computers>" and they'll give you the cables. Then, and only then grasshopper, will you understand why the people in blue vests at best buy have nametags.

A WEEK just on cabling?!? That's ridiculous! Was that only straight-through and xover, or did you learn rollover too?

As for the ethernet conflict stuff, try uninstalling both, then install the regular NIC first, then the USB. The USB one probably has a little more intelligence and may have more PnP optoins available to it.

What's so wrong w/wireless? We have a pretty nice WLAN set up in one of our labs (of course it's Cisco aironet HW, not that Linksys crap).

I was figuring since he didn't know what they were (or it seems like he didn't, if he does), he doesn't have a clue how to make them, or really care to.

We had to make some straight throughs and crossovers in my network admin class. We spent a week just making those. Network Admin kicks ass.
