I have an ati all in wonder pro pci videocard with 8mb ram. And i also have an ati tv tuner software to use with the built in tv tuner. Well since i happen to be running windows xp pro on a P1 166 macheine with 64mb of ram, and apperently it needs more ram or cpu power ati tuner software does very wierd thing. It freezes up absolutely everything. I can't move my mouse or do anything with the keyboarb. I can't do anything about that but to restart. Gets very anoying after awhile. Is there any other (third party) TV tuner software that would work with my ati all in wonder card?

Any other software to do that would probably be built upon directshow, and use essentially the same directshow filters as the ati player uses.

I suspect the problem you're having is in one of the directshow filters provided by the driver..

Well - Try updating the driver if possible, otherwise you=out of luck.

I was going to say Windows 98. I wouldn't recommend ever trying to run 2K/XP with less than 128MB RAM, especially if you're trying to run something like a TV tuner.

Seriously, XP Pro on a 166? Without checking I'd say that doesn't even meet M$'s minimum requirements, and that's for barely tolerable performance.

you are definately right
minimum requierments for XP pro are 233 MMX with at least 128mb ram
but it runs
performans is far below tolerable, but the only thing i use it for it watching tv
for everything else i am using my P2 350 with 320mb ram
still pretty slow
but i am saving up for a new computer by the end of winter, possibly beginning of summer, before i go off to university
still, i was wondering if there'ss anything else i could do to my 166 without goin back to any older operating systems

Let me take this time to repeat what others have said:

What the fuck are you doing trying to run Windows XP on a P166!?!

And you say you only use it for the TV stuff. UNINSTALL Windows XP. It's the reason you can't use the software. Windows XP runs slow because it's taking all the processing time on your CPU, meaning THERE'S NO MORE CPU FOR TV!

The solution is pretty obvious, install Win98 or below. If it still doesn't work, get a better computer. Or try Linux.

No no no... Never ever ever ever install a Win9x OS. It's way too bad. Install Win2K. It's actually faster than Win98, gives you a little more control, and seems to be the defacto standard of business nowadays. Almost everything runs on it now anyways. If it doesn't, it isn't worth running.

Don't know what else to tell you. P166 is pretty hardcore nowadays. See if your Mobo bios supports a CHEAP upgrade to a slightly faster chip in the 200 range. Watch your voltages and 'microcode updates' (which equals MMX support), I got burned once.
