Ok, I just upgraded to office xp. but now, when i try to send mail, before it even has a chance to go through to the server, i get a mail in my inbox :
quote:

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'email.me@webmail.co.za' on 2001/06/26 01:05 AM
550 5.7.1 <email.me@webmail.co.za>... Relaying denied

i know its not being denied by my mail server cos i got a crappy connection and these mails from "system administrator" get tossed into my inbox immediately after i press send/receive without having a chance to be sent to the server.
i can receive mail fine, just can't manually send it. however, if i try to test the email settings in the accounts options box, it sends the test mail fine.
i never had any problems like this before i upgraded to xp, could that be the problem, or am i just having a bad day?

edit: or could it have something to do with the questionable source of my copy of xp?

thanx

Are you sure you have your SMTP server set correctly? Most mail servers won't let you relay through them unless you're on the same network (i.e., are you using your ISPs SMTP server or some other server?).

outlook just stopped working for me awhile back... every message received had a blank subject, body, and sender field... lost a bunch of mail that way. reinstall. microshaft blows it every time... so far no problems with win2k, but we'll see.

Quite possibly. Remember that MS Big Brother is watching you, planting hidden tracing info in all your new programs, and eventually Big Billy himself will come to rape you in the ass for piracy.

Fuck you, MS.

no... hence it's questionable source

thing is, outlook worked perfectly until i upgraded. and i can retrieve all my mail without problems. its just when i send mail, it comes back the moment i click send, from the so-called "system administrator" with the abovementioned "relaying denied" message. i am sure this is cos some settings are somehow messed up. or maybe it was just my mail server fucking up.

regarding my modem... its not that i can't afford an external 56k, at the moment i cant justify the expense (i'm still a student) seeing as how it works fine under windows. maybe next year when i start work at my l33t job with lots of $$$ i'll consider it.

'email.me@webmail.co.za' might be your problem
i am not sure about outlook, but i have seen a few email clients that has a problem with certain email adresses and webmail accounts. now i don't know if the above is your actual email. Since it gives that agress and says relaying denied i would assume that is some sort of SMTP server that for some reason can't relay your message, or outlook doesn't suppost that kinds of smtp server.
my only sudgestion would be to try with a few other email clients. try eudora or any other client, there's plenty out there.
