Tell me you haven't been logging in as Administrator... please tell me that. If you haven't, you've no doubt built a second account that has administrator rights. Log into that account, and go to Users and Passwords. There's a button for changing the Administrator account. That's where.

Now, if this isn't an option to you, you probably need to reinstall. It's called a security model.

yeah
i figured as much
it's my dad's laptop and he changed his network properties somehow so the other account he was using got deleted somehow. he brought the laptop and the only account on it was the administrator account, and he doesn't have the password for it. i guess he'll just have to figure out who installed the OS and what the admin password is.

ERD Commander 2000.

It's out there. You make a bootable CD with it or a series of floppies. Like the repair console but with a lot more commands. Just load up the user list and set the administrator password to be whatever you like. Works with WinNT and Win2K. The support guy for the EE department at Pitt has such a CD. Bailed me out of a jam on a call.

(Oh, just for a laugh, check out SysInternals' page for it. Note the price.)
