They'll let you add more ram to it, but not replace the power supply? Or did you have to get some other dude with clearance to add the RAM?

changing the power supply requires admin access to change the settings or something. besides those things aren't cheap, even compared to a gig of ram.

What's the practicality of 1000 megabytes of ram, CK?

What're you gonna do? Run quake3, internet explorer 5, unreal tournament, unreal ed v 2.0, half life, counterstrike, 5 instances of mIRC, cool edit, and winamp at the same time?

Cool nonetheless, but ... jeeeeezuz, overkill.

Well. he has a dell dual-p3 PC as well :]

So I suppose that he is sposed to use the PC as his day-to-day usage machine, and the SGI oxygen box was probably for doing some intensive stuff like running simulations on..

j00 fools! first of all it's an SGI with unix. second, it's a workstation used for video capture and editing and making 3d models of radar signatures for stealth fighters and stuff. the gig of ram and the oxy card are for rendering huge maps in detail and calculating radar reflections.
