I don't like really long hair. Shoulder length or french braided. Maybe those cool side braid things Princess Leia had.

I can't speak from a guy-stand-point opinion but I can tell you what my guy friends say. (I hear their opinions often since my hair reaches my ass - it's a big conversation piece I guess.) MOST guys tend to like long hair but don't REQUIRE it. It's a bit more rare than short hair because of the amount of dedication and determination that it takes to get a good deal of length on it. It also looks (by subconscious and rather primative association) more feminine than short does. Plus I think a lot of them have fantasies about long hair or something. Maybe the guys here could clarify that a bit.
