Anyone know where I can get any good, well written tutorials (beginner stuff especially) for 3d studio max?

That, and where can I download 3d studio max r4 (version 4.2.. or anything higher than version 3, which i have)

And yea, I did warez it, and the way I justify that: I'm not paying around 500 us for a product I intend for personal use which I won't be making any profit off of.

Fuck 3DS max. Get some proven open source tool under Linux.

* I cannot make any recommendations because I have never used any Linux open source 3d modelling tools. I do know they are out there though :P

Blender, for linux is a very good 3d modelling proggie, but dunno about the easy to use for beginner part.

They have a windows port for it now, but I couldn't get it to work, but is out there. And free.

Depending what you want to do is going to make you choose which proggie you want to "evaluate".

You've never used 3DSMax either. Your ability to bring some useful insight or advice to the discussion? Zilch.

what are you trying to do with it? CG or CAD?

For CAD i use Rhino3d. its easy to use and quicker than Solidworks.

i know where you can get the 3ds max 4 but it is only a 24 hour demo ( ) has character studio too. you'll have to contact me in some other way than these forums, (cr0 doesn't seem to like 24 hr demos that much) i think my email is in my profile, if not its fairly simple "me" at hotm41l

3D Cafe has got a nice range of tutorials, the Polycount site used to be good, haven't checked out the resources page recently so don't know how much use it'll be.

Michael Comet is a cool artist, and this tutorial just happens to show you how to make your very own butt nekkid cyber-chick.

This glossary might come in handy for some of the terms they use.

Most of those links are based around character modelling, but they show some good basic ideas to use in any modelling.

There's way too many good sites to list. Just keep hunting - stuff by Potempkin is good, Alcor too (though I'm not so keen on the latter).
