I posted this on www.3dfiles.com (good site) but I thought I might as well post it here too just in case someone can help:

I posted about this before. I've downloaded 3dmark multiple times from various servers and I still get similar problems. When I try to run the demo the screen says 'loading, please wait', for about 2 seconds and then exits, or crashes with the error ' file data\gamescene2\level\dorf.ldb is corrupted'. At this point if I try to run the installation file again it reports that the file is corrupt!!! and recommmends downloading again..etc. I've been able to get the demo to run once, on a previous installation, but I've never been able to get through all the benchmarks without getting the error mentioned above (sometimes at the first helicopter test, sometimes at the adventure test - seems random - which is weird).
I've scanned for viruses (with Mcaffee). I don't have problems with anything else (quake 3 runs great).

I do have a new Radeon?? But I don't think that's it.

Someone HELP please!!

Ok, I am going to do a check list...

Does onion 3dmark 2000 work? Are we talking about the other 3dmark from 1999?

Are there new drivers on the ATi site?

Check anandtech.com and sharkyextreme to see if they did the 3dmark test and it worked.

If you have a VIA board make sure you hav the latest ADP GART drivers.

Make sure you have the latest directX (7)

Ummm thats about all i can think of HTH!!

regards, reman

They say "You think your good don't you".
I say "I know I'm good". People always ask stupid questions.

Thanks a lot for the thought but I think I figured it out. A few other proggys were displying similar symptoms now and then, and after thinking about what it could possibly be, besides a virus, the only answer was bad RAM. I ran a RAM diagnostic program and it did indeed find an error - I took my RAM out and reinserted it and all seems well again.
