Oh, and all the canadian ballots are exactly the same throughout Canada, and are all hand counted.. so no chance of any American recounting happening We'll actully have our answer tonight, not a month later..

Canada has a representation by population government. That means that for every certain number of people you get one seat in parliment. Ontario, our biggest province population-wise, has 103 seats in parliment. BC on the other hand has around 26. Same with Alberta. Saskatchewan has around 15, Manitoba the same. The atalantic provinces have around the same, execpt for PEI which has like 2. Quebec also has a large number of seats, around 70 I think.

Also, our poll times are staggerd so that they all close withen an hour of each other around the Country. But by once the Ontario and Quebec polls around counted, the election is more or less over, and thats why they have media blackouts, because those of us in the west don't bother voting of a lost cause. All we decide is the Official Opposition. (the Liberals got 170 seats in total, 100 of those came from Ontario alone)

These are the parties standings:
Liberals 170
Canadian Alliance 68
Bloc Quebecois 37 (not sure exact number)
NDP 13
PC 12

Nearly all of western Canada voted for the Alliance. And you can only vote for the Bloc in quebec, because they don't have any represenatives anywhere else in Canada.

Now, for what each party stands for:

Liberals: Middle-of-the-road. They tend to lean towards Health Care and Social Services. They generated a multi billion dollar surplus budget last year. This whole election was more or less based upon where to spend that money.

Canadian Alliance: Right-wing. Income tax cuts, anti-gun control and no special rights groups. (ie: gay pride parades) More support to our millitary

Bloc Quebecois: Separation of Quebec from Canada. This goes way back to colonial times.

NDP(New Democratic Party):Very left wing. Very heavy in into Health Care spending and Social Services. High tax rates etc.

PC(Progressive Conservatives): Middle of the road. More free trade basically.
