Oh, so you are leaving. Have fun wherever you are going, and I hope that you will find fulfillment there.

I am glad that you are transcending this place to find a higher enlightment.
Wait, no I'm not.
You want to know something? Detonate was never a place; it was an idea. Do you think a place could have survived all the changes, all the rants, and all of the complaints? Ideas do. That is what Detonate is: an idea. From what I can remember from the early time, Jason (cr0bar) used this site as a means of self expression. He did stuff and then posted the results on his site. It wasn't a hub of entertainment: it was a place of ideas.
So, what happened?
Far be it from me to explain it all away: I can't and I won't. But it seems that Jason suffered more than just money losses: all of us were riding on his creative thoughts. Myself included. I wanted to see what happened next in the Matrix Parody. I waited with baited breath for the next panels, for the next "fix". And then Jason's life changed. He no longer had the time, energy, and money to support all of us. Combined with a failing internet economy, it seems he just didn't want to have any part of it anymore (and Jason, if I am wrong, please set me straight).
And without him, the community died. But why?
When Jason created the site, he didn't just code html--he begat an idea. That idea, Detonate, is still alive--barely. Jason said that he will not be apart of this anymore, and editor has taken it over. Sure, he is a newbie. Sure, it seems that he is all talk, but you know what? He knows the idea. He just needs help forming it.
If you slashdot sheep are just looking for a quick fix you won't find it here. That Detnet is gone. What was once left of the community is crumbling. What we need now are people who will stand up in the face of adversity and scream, "Hell, no! I will not let this idea die!" Detonate has always been the one to stand up in the face of the world and flip it off. What we need now is people who will stand up.
Detonate will not pay our bills. It will never clean our house, or help us cram for an exam. But it is a place where we can expouse our opinions. But for that we need people. In the new era, a website cannot survive without it's community. Who will help?
Detonate has never been about the perfect website. It has never been about pleasing everyone.
For those continuing to read, I thank you for your time and patience. I was (am) pretty hot about people leaving for trite reasons, and though I may come across coarse, sometimes that is the only way to get people motivated. We have become a "serve me" people. Everyone has something to contribute. What do you have?

Publicly, I contribute sarcastic remarks and, once or twice, serious suggestions.
On another note, I've always felt that the true death knell of a community is the melodrama itself. Come on, people. Step back for a second, dig down deep and try to scrape up a few shredded bits of common sense; if you like what's here now, stay. If you don't, help change it, or bugger off. If you want to just wait and see what happens... then fucking wait and see.
This stuff just boggles my mind.
