Transformers r0x0rs. I had like all those things when I was a kid. Shockwave was the best because you could get the little Transformer tapes to put in him ...Rumble the little robot dude and the panther and the bird. Damn those things kicked ass until kids started choking on all the little parts. WTF!? We can loose a few kids, it's called evolution ...deal with it ...little toy pieces forever!!

I'm sure Megatron turning into a gun was a big hit with all those hippie parents too.

Eh, that was the early 80s. It was still okay for cartoons to have guns. Nowerdays chars blow up, get boiled, melt, etc...but they better not have a gun because that will warp children's minds.
Riiiiiight.

Anybody happen to know what model of pistol Megatron transformed into? Just sort of curious.
I think my fascination with guns started with the Megatron toy. I remember seeing it on the shelf and wanting it so bad. That's also when I learned the difference between 26 cents and 26 dollars. I told my mom that I could buy it because I had enough, and she explained to me that I didn't have enough to buy it. I think it was a cop out since my mom still isn't a huge fan of handguns... or that I own a couple now. She hated when I went to play paintball. Didn't like simulated life-taking, I guess.
Transformers always bothered me with one aspect: that of conservation of mass. How the hell did Soundwave turn into this little ass tape recorder that would escape the eye, yet turn into the biggest damn Decepticon (aside from that train/shuttle thingy) of them all. And when a tape player, he could eject tapes that transformed into robots bigger than a human! Ack! Even when I was 8, that bothered the shit out of me.
edit: Moron forgot that it's Soundwave, not Shockwave.

Hehe...that is the great Decepitcon mystery. I read (a looooong time ago) that when a decepticon transforms they can compact their mass. Or something like that.
My fav Decepticon had to have been Shockwave. You never saw him much, and he was about the only guy that could kick Meg's butt at will.
My parents encouraged me to handle guns...but growing up in Rural Illinois, it kinda was a requirement. My dad was in Nam, so he had a nice collection of weaponry that I learned to handle as a kid.

hrmmm... I think my little brother knows, he reads those toy magazines... sux for him cause I got to play with all those cool toys (transformers, G.I. Joes, etc) and he didn't ... although he really enjoyed playing with the G.I. Joes that survived me.
edit: upon consultation, it's a Walther P-38 that the original Megatron was modeled after.

It's funny when they say that a gun isn't a toy. I have to supress a giggle because they are just that... fun. And all I keep thinking is "Toy toy toy toy toy toy BANG! Schwoops"
Wow, a Walther, eh? Interesting.
And I wish that they'd do more episodes like the movie. I want to see consequences of people getting shot with laser blasters. Dude, the ambulance dude died!!! That makes sense. I wondered why they bothered carrying weapons. You'd think that a large version M16 would be more effective. And what happened to the energy mace and axe? Those ruled!
