Rios are totally cool for biking, working out, commuting or any other places you want a small, portable device and sound quality does not matter as much. But if you just want it for the car or something, I would go with an MP3 player with it's own hard drive or one of the MP3 CD players.

But if its the Rio you want definetly go with it; they are cool and that's a pretty good price. Just don't forget to send in the rebate; I did and lost 50$ when I got mine.

Aaagh... No-mad... Jukebox...
I'm only hesitating to buy a player because the fact they can't always hold an entire CD, but I guess they're... fun.

I am a huge freak on portable music... I investigated mp3 players, and, in my opinion, found them to be a less than satisfactory value. Yes, no moving parts is cool, for totally anti-skip play, but flash cards are so damned expensive and just don't do it for me.
Instead, I went out and bought myself an Aiwa AM-F70 portable minidisc player/recorder, which I absolutely LOVE. No more buying AA batteries. I can title my tracks/discs. I have a funky remote. It very rarely skips. The disc's look super cool (think the matrix.."if you get caught using that...")., are all super durable, re-writeable, and cost about 5 bucks each, most holding 75 minutes of ANY quality audio.

Just one bro's opinion.
Do your research before you get anything though... these things are pretty expensive.

MP3.com's review of the Rio 500 says it has crashing and freezing problems (http://www.mp3.com/news/351.html), which I wouldn't accept for a portable player. You might want to look over their reviews (http://hardware.mp3.com/hardware/featured/portable/?mc=hwlc01).

I personally like my NEX player - it's got its own problems, but the manufacturer has been extremely responsive to bug reports, and the NEX II that should be out this month looks like it fixes everything I don't like about the NEX.

i've also been looking into getting an mp3 player. the one that's impressed me most is the macab dap96pro. that's 96 meg of space that can be used for mp3s (or you can transfer other filetypes to and from it as data files, making it useful for transporting files around). and it seems to have got some pretty good reviews.
