It all started like this, I run the site Vulture Studios and I have a little problem. The site is for web design service plus we are working on publishing some games and misc. projects. This kid from my school who I have showed the site design to and a sneak peek at the game has stolen my web design and posted it on his own site he also linked directly to the game. I have contacted him about this problem. But as of this post he has refused to do anything about it. Detneters what the hell should I do?

First thing you do is change the link of the game to a page explaining that this kid has ripped your site off verbatum. Link it to your actual page.

Did you have a copyright/image contained within type disclaimer on the pages? That would certainly help things.

That's the extent of my legal advice. Good Luck.

he gave you credit Kyle and your site is not even launched.

The lesson to be learned is this. Trust No one and use a script that prevents right clicking on your pages.

Thanks for the advice guys, he has finally given me some credit and taken the link to my game off his site after he realized it was now a zip file with a little different contents than what he thought.

No right clicking is GAY. I know over 20 ways to defeat it, but I don't need to.
What I do need to do is right click links and say either save as (to download files) or open page in new window.

I know it isn't as convenient, but holding down the Shift key and clicking on a link automatically launches a new window in IE. I believe a Shift-Click in Netscape does a "save target as..." or maybe it's Ctrl-Click. If you are on a *nix station with a 3-button mouse and running Netscape, a middle-click launches a new window.

Also if you have one of those nifty mice with 4+ buttons, you could map one of the buttons to Shift or Ctrl to simplify things.

the best idea when starting up a new website that you're hoping to make money off of, or atleast run for a pretty long time, is literally make it a business. You have more rights to stuff that way. And adding a good ol' "(c) Copyright 19(best idea is whenever you were born)-2001, (whatever your name is or company).". If you're doing this with more then one person, take the oldest person's age and make them the so called "leader", or atleast say they started it. Because in a court of law (in america atleast), you can defend yourself and anything you do as being "created" the same time you were. My friend copyrighted his image that way. If you take a picture of him, he has right to take your whole roll of film/video tape and all copies, and if you refuse he can take you to court for upwards of one thousand (1,000 for our friends who are less abled with larger numbers) dollars a copy, or 5 seconds of video... pretty cool, huh?

Yeah, anyways... make it into a company or organization of some form. You have more rights and will be taken more seriously in court, if you see to take it that far (and you can get some money taking it to court, even if it's over practically nothing).

It is a company we do have a copyright, It really makes me mad that he did this behind my back. I'm seriously considering having my uncle who is a lawyer write him a pleasent notice. One last thing, the copy right on my site is 2000-2001. The legal notice reads as follows:

Legal Notice:
All content of this site is Copyright © 2000 & 2001 Vulture Studios, this means that it is ours and not yours. If you are interested in anything we would be more than happy to help you. Don't however steal any of the coding or graphics from our site. The same goes for the projects, ask before you take.

if you have any copyright questions, ask me, and ill ask my mom, who works at the library of congress...and they make the rules and shit about copyrights...at least on all media type stuff...she told me that there was some guy there whose job was to watch movies being submitted for copyright...that would be such an awesome job...

well, I'm guessing the legal notice was on there before that. As long as it's in legiable text and displayed on most any computer, I'm pretty sure you can even, legally. Now, I'm not saying go out and sue, just stating an option . I'd recommend writing some dinky little script that has anything like "page sucking" (like someone linking to an archive of pictures, or in your case the game) go directly to a webpage that states "Someone's stealing our stuff and saying it's their own. If you would like to view the real object in question, please go here (link to game). To help stop people from doing this, and to help us out a little, you can email the admin of which ever site you got this from and tell them to stop with the plagerism (spelling?)" or something... you could also go the antioffline way (notice, - not antionline... JP sucks, he stole my nickname!) and ban the guy's whole A class and really piss off people. Or you could be nice and just block the B or C class...

oh yeah, Sithiee, that would be a cool job
