I think there's a point to be made there.

Laughing at someone because they don't know what they're doing, is totally wrong, and shouldn't be done.

HOWEVER

I'd say a good 60\% of the calls I get are just people being extremeley stupid. Listen to this:

The system I do Tech Support for is a pickup delivery system. I got a call one day from someone saying that their business summarry report contained no data for yesterday for a certain truck route. I asked them if they ran trucks on that route yesterday.
They had to go check.
Guess what? They didn't.

I thought that was hillarious, because it had NOTHING to do with the actual software, it's just the person was a total idiot.

Anyway, your thoughts?

Now that is something one can consider funny, but making fun of someone because they have no idea what they are doing is not funny.

Sure, one can chuckle to himself and help the person out, but exploiting it and sharing it with others like you, having everyone laugh at this person, it will only make the person not want to know more about computers and how to use them.

When you laugh at someone who has no idea what they're doing, all you are doing is discriminating them and making them feel small, and they can't help themselves, because they have no idea what they are doing wrong.

Jent my two cents.

I never laugh at people who make dumb mistakes to their face, I just do it as soon as I get back to the office from making an on site support trip. I do have to laugh when I listen in on the lead helpdesk technician. He sits there an is constantly clicking the MUTE button on and off. You will hear him yealling some pretty bad sh!t at the people (although he has it on mute.) One of these where he will say, "Yes that is what you are supposed to do (click MUTE) you stupid f^ckin asshole, you should have figured that out by now (click Mute)...conversation goes on like such.
