This has been prompted by the favourite films thread but as I'm a forum nazi this is the _best_ scene thread not favourite because I only want to know about _one_ scene which you think is the best in any movie ever. So here goes:

John Hurt gets indegestion in Alien.

cheers

The scene in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, where Jen and Mu Lu Bai are fighting in the tree tops and flying all over the place.

From Schindler's list.
When Schindler sees the body of a little girl with the red jacket in an otherwise black and white movie. That is awesome, not for the violence but for it’s significance of Schindler seeing what the Nazi’s are really doing.

The ringed plannet raising above the horizon in Pitch Black! Hey... it may be a bit pixalated on a theater size screen, but it's a damn perdy sight!

uh... best scene ever, and I can name just one? Well... there are several scenes from different movies that I love, but I think the scene that impressed me most of all I've scene is from "Matrix". When Neo and Trinity get into the building and start just firing and killing everyone around for about 5 minutes, that's incredible. What I liked about it is the way it's choreographed - looks almost like dancing, not like a fight. Awesome.

But well, it's hard to decide on just one scene... difficult to pick the really best one. So if I may exceed the one-scene-limit: the final scene of "Dead Poets' Society". When the guys get up on their chairs and all... great. And with a really deep meaning, it kinda resumes all the movie has said. I love it.

Veering slightly off my own topic and prompted by what LiNey said I think that one of the best action sequences ever commited to film is at the end of Leon.

The music jsut fits it so well, when you see the SWAT team enter the apartment, it crescendoes as you see the fingers come down to deftly shut the door. Awesome.

And then there's the fight between Ripley and the Queen in Aliens (that's not Queen Elizabeth II although I bet that would be fucking funny).

Oh, and another fantastic scene: the rooftop in Shawshank Redemtion. "Do you trust your wife?"
cheers

well, i like syf0ns little depiction, and i love the shawshank redemtion. but if any of you have ever seen the scent of a woman, i think that the ending scene in the school, where the colonel makes the speech, is one of the best scenes. or, in braveheart, if you really get into the movie, they make the ending just perfect. especially when his dead wife smiles at him right before he loses his head.
