Rogers@Home noted their customers (me being one of them) to make a transition so that our service is coming from the people at Rogers, I think.

My internet's became a little screwy after the transition, but recently it's back up to normal...

Just wondering if I have anything to worry about.

I think he's just referring to running Ethernet over power lines. Fairly simple to do, since the data stream travels the line at a different frequency than the power.

Easy to encode. Kinda scary to get it back out again.

EXCITE@HOME MAY SHUT DOWN CABLE SERVICE COMPLETELY ON FRIDAY

You should've heard by now, but if you haven't, Excite@home who provide the cable backbone for 4 MILLION users is bankrupt (they have been for some time) and they might shut down service on Friday the 30th pending a court ruling.

Apparently excite@home's creditors want the service shut down. AT&T offered to buy out excite, but the f*cking stockholders think 307 Million ain't enought. I got news for you.. in about a week it's not going to be worth anything.
Anyways, Cox has apparently been building their own internet backbone in advance, figuring that this was coming. excite@home's been in deep shit for a while now (who hasn't) so hopefully nothing too drastic will happen. This is fianly reminiscent of about 6 months ago when Northpoint DSL went under. Only this is like 20 times bigger.

So tell everyone important you're changing to web-based email, backup your shit on your @home webspace, download NetZero or AOL, leech all the mp3's, divx, pr0n, etc off Kaaza, whatever you need to do.

good luck all, me included!

<grumble grumble>

their tech support was shit but if you managed to get it working, it was fast and cheap! and now all the bandwidth problems at school (they limited all students to 50 kbps, about the same as modem, although it's actually MUCH slower due to bottlenecks)...

bah what is happening to broad band...

Sorry, you're wrong. There's Optimum Online, which is Cablevision, quite a large company.
