Gah! Several weeks ago, my truck got broken into...back window smashed, dash ripped off, and stereo stolen. Insurance is really cool about it, replace the window immediately, takes a bit for the stereo, but that's fine, too. So I take it to an authorized service center for my insurance company (which is also a dealer for my make of truck). At first they tell me that they're not going to replace the dash due to the age of the truck (it's only a '93), they're going to either find one at a junkyard or "fix" mine by basically gluing stuff back together. I say "no, I pay insurance for stuff like this, you're going to put a new one in."So they order the dash (supposedly) and I take my truck in last week on Monday. Thursday I call, assuming that it should be done (since I need it to drive to the 'rents for Easter). The guy tells me that the parts company sent me the wrong dashboard so they had to send it back and the new one will be in Tuesday. They just never bothered to call and tell me. This is after I had rented a car. So I pick up my truck, go to Easter, and drop it back off on Monday morning. Guy says it should be done by the end of the week. Called early this afternoon, now he tells me that they don't make that dash anymore, so he can't replace it. So now they're gluing stuff together, like I said I didn't want and "he'll have to call me when Ford starts making it again." Whatever. He then tells me it'll be done by 4:30 or so, and I can come get it between then and 5. I think "great, it's not perfect, but at least I'll have my wheels back, right?" It's now 4:52, and he still hasn't called me. F! Posted by Wolfguard on Apr. 06 2002,18:18
dood, i feel for you.went through the same thing about a month ago. I got lucky, my truck was back on the road in 2 days and about $900 later. Posted by Beldurin on Apr. 06 2002,21:11
Well, I picked it up this morning, and the dashboard seems to be attached. The good news is that it didn't cost me anything (comprehensive insurance is a beautiful thing), but the bad news is I know something is going to go wrong, and now the inside of my truck f'ing reeks like smoke...assholes. I asked for a written copy of everything they did, but they said that they didn't have one. They only put generic information like "repair" on the work invoice, and the body shop ppl weren't in. I'm going back on Monday to ask the manager of the body shop. Why can't anything be easy? Posted by just_dave on Apr. 06 2002,21:55
Dood, I know the feeling, what I did was first spray ya fabrics with Febreeze, then soak some cotton balls in some of that vanilla extract stuff like you use for cooking.. soak them real good and toss a couple under your seat.. as it evaporates it helped elminate the smoke smell and your truck smells like vanilla, It worked for me... but I imagine you could use any scented oils, vanilla was the closest on hand for me Posted by Wolfguard on Apr. 06 2002,22:54
Send a letter to your insurance co about this place. After all, they sent you there.Take the truck back monday and tell them that you are a non smoker and to remove the smoke smell that they left behind. If they dont, take it to another place, get an estimate to clean it, and send it to your insurance co. If they do not give you a complete work order that list everything done keep complaining about a slight rattle in the dash that only you and your dog can hear that was not there BEFORE you went into their shop. Since they were the last ones to work on it and you have no idea what they did to it they must of caused it. If your family knows a lawyer have him make a phone call if you think its nessary. Its a wonder what a single phone call from a lawyer can do. Posted by Beldurin on Apr. 06 2002,23:26
Hmmm....good ideas. Also, a guy that's getting ready to start my grad program in the fall (and knows the prof that I am a GA for) happens to be the son of the general manager of the place. Maybe I should go that route as well... |
