I'm having to reinstall windows xp -again-. I love it, but it bombs out on me every 3 months or so ... it just wont boot, last known good wont work, safe mode wont work ... all i can do is reinstall.since my last reinstall i set 2 partitions so i could reinstall easily. thats not the way it should be! if i didnt play games and watch so many divx's, id be so using debian as my desktop. . . Typing this on my shitty laptop. It runs 98. Not had to reinstall it once! Grrrrrr..... Posted by Wolfguard on Apr. 02 2002,17:33
i have had xp installed since sept. i have rebooted maybe 6 times. Not a problem. (and im sure as i write this my machine at home just went "oh yeah?" and crashed.) Posted by The_Stomper on Apr. 02 2002,17:53
I assume you haven't changed much hardware or drivers then. (Or do you mean "involuntary reboots"?)I like XP. It's been more stable than 98SE for the most part. But damn it, it won't run NeoRageX. Posted by ic0n0 on Apr. 02 2002,18:09
xp has been extermly slow for me.

and ugly. I think I'll just stick w/2K on my desktop and redhat on my router. Posted by Wolfguard on Apr. 02 2002,18:47
4 were from changing hardware the rest were the machine starting to act funny. much better than my box at work with 2k on it. about 2x a week the fucker needs to be kicked. Posted by CatKnight on Apr. 02 2002,19:13
i hate the mouse acceleration in games in xp. the vertical speed isn't the same as the horizontal speed! does anyone know how to fix this? i want the mouse acceleration style of 2000 back!also xp likes to disable dma mode on my dvd drive for some reason. like if it gets read errors from a bad cd it thinks the dma might be the cause so it kills it. the only way to reenable dma is to uninstall the secondary ide controller and let plugnplay re install it. grrr Posted by liquid metal on Apr. 02 2002,21:18
i have been through video card upgrades, more ram, new keyboard (wireless) new printer, new floppy drive, installation of DSL and I have never had to format or reinstall win xp. hell i don't even have the cd anymore. heh. if i ever do have to install windows again i'm going to go to win 2k for a while.typo :/ Posted by The_Stomper on Apr. 03 2002,07:18
I don't usually have involuntary reboots. I do power down or at least sleep at nighttimes though. I've got four 5000rpm+ fans in this SOB. It sounds like a fucking wind tunnel. But for an Athlon XP it's pretty cool ... 57 CPU / 37 case (celcius) after a two-hour Max Payne stint. For me, XP never needs kicking. It just asks for it. Naturally, I oblige the little bitch. Two reinstalls thus far, usage since September. Posted by just_dave on Apr. 03 2002,16:36
I been running xp since sept.. Pro version and its doing fine.. even my parents cant crash it. Got xp home on my laptop.. its been doing great also. One fault was Xp was being bitchy about a card driver, but then I stuck in the ole sblive and was done with it. The pro machine is rebooted about once a month if that or if the power goes off around here... and my laptop well I turn it off when I travel so its on and off all the time depending on what or where im going.-dave Posted by Beldurin on Apr. 04 2002,06:44
I don't think laptops count because, in my experience, the HW and OS configs don't matter...a laptop crashes and screws up just because it's a laptop. I hate the damn things. Posted by veistran on Apr. 04 2002,07:19
I've only had to re-install XP once and that was because of a deathstar eating itself. I've managed to Bluescreen it a couple times, all have been from shit drivers.
