k. - i'm a guy first of all.
i like to get my hair dyed, i like really really dark red hair. today was the first time i let my mom do it for the first time cuz i got in a fight w/ the girl that used to do it.
first of all my mom used less dye so if anything it should come out darker right?! NO it looks like irish boy red w/o hair gel in.  w/ hair stuff in it's not too bad.  still a lot lighter than normal.

k. that was the morning.
i went to my high school cuz i promised to. so i left w/ some friends that are still there; we go outside and the kid's got a flat. so i'm like "ok i've done this before it shouldn't be too hard." his lugnuts were rusted onto the rims! arg. someone went and got wd-40, i got the lug nuts off after about 20 mins of spraying and twisting. then we noticed on the last one it was locked. we spent 10 mins trying to find the key. got it off.  so usually when you take the lugnuts off the rim comes right off right?! WRONG!! the rim was stuck.  (fyi i called AAA during the whole lugnuts rusted on part but i still continued to try to get the damn rims off) so we just kinda give up.  the tow truck guy pulls up.  he gets out, looks at the rim after hearing from me "it's stuck".  he kicks it twice. it comes right off.
he starts chuckling.
ok so that's done.

then after that it was not very eventful.

LM - sitting here trying to write a paper and about to go to bed.

Percussive Maintenance....coooooooooooool

I used to do the same thing with my 386.

Seriously, tho', don't sweat it.  The experience was mildly amusing, and there are much worse things to be foolish about.

Um, run, do not walk
to the car.

rinse the lugnuts with thinner.

Carb cleaner should work

Never ever ever douse your 'nuts in 1040.

ever.

Children;

Never ever use lubes on your 'nuts.
I wouldn't even drive that car.
Or go anywhere near it.

/me lives in Los Angeles, home of cars.

trust me.

If you use WD40 to loosen your nuts make sure you just wipe everything down before you put it back together.  WD40 will evaporate and is not really a danger.

Some of the Graphite based lubes are what you need to watch out for.  This stuff is basicly like little ball bearings.  this is the stuff you need to use the carb cleaner to remove.

Personaly, i put a little grease on the studs before i put the lugnuts on so they dont rust up.  Since there is a load on the nut it will not shake loose with just grease.  Remember, nuts and bolts(the stud is just a bolt) when tightened is a static load.  Takes a lot of force to move it. (at one time i knew the math for this...)

Putting the nut on the bolt (even with a thin coat of grease to prevent rust) creates friction between the threads of the nut and the threads of the bolt. There is enough friction to prevent the nuts from beginning to turn provided they are tightened down all the way, so your little bit of grease or WD-40 is not going to cause any real problem.

It is vital to be sure that the lug nuts are tightened all the way, however, because leaving them loose will allow the nuts to begin to turn on the threads. That would be bad.

Thank you captain obvious.  And remember to keep your eyes open while walking or driving.  And never ever piss into the wind.

hehe  ...sorry Kuru, but I had to do it. :D

I say that because I had a coworker who did NOT tighten the lug nuts all the way.

He put them on, put the car back on the ground, the lug nuts were loose, and the wheel damn near wobbled right off the car.

There is a reason the instructions on a hair dryer say 'Do NOT use while sleeping.'

Kuru - I seen worse.. our staff transport at the theme park I was working at.. all but one of the lugs were gone, entirely, and the thread was non-existant where the lugs should have been.

They still use that van, there's still only one lugnut on that wheel.

my mum once had one of her wheels overtake her on a mountain road years back when she lived in new zealand it was just like out of one of the lovebug (herbie)  movies she was even driving a VW :)
