"get it!"  instead of "take that!"  Is the most common offence.  Worst of all is when someone says a surprised cut-off sentence fragment, and the anal translator actually translates the words instead of a simple "huh?" or "what the?!"  Bad grammar and bad sentance structure abound.  I've lost count of how many phrases get translated badly on a regular basis.  It almost makes me never want to watch another episode of DragonBallZ, or just wait for more episodes to be dubbed and censored on cartoon network....  almost.  Bastards wanna be anal retentive about translating shit verbatim, but somehow forget to put a "Mr." in front of names when someone addresses someone with a "-san".

WE DON'T NEED AN EXACT FUCKING WORD FOR WORD TRANSLATIONS GOD DAMMIT!!!!!!  Its like the subtitles are designed specificly to let us know that the translator knows exactly what the fuck the characters are saying, and we have to read it.

And if these bastards spoke english as a second language, that would be an excuse, but most of them are american!

I think the real guilty parties are the moronic anime fans, who think engrish sounds more "otaku" (whatever the fuck that means) than english.

And for the love of god, can these numbnuts get together and decide what everyone's name is?  Is it "bulma" or "buluma"
Is the little robot's name gil, gill, giru, gilu, gilru, or guliu?!  Freeza, Freezer, or Freeze?  Broli or Birloli?

Yeah, but then it can go the other way.

Ghost in The Shell DVD: Subtitled:
Opening scene, the guy complains about her signal being fuzzy. Asks if it's a problem. She says no, it must be her period.
Cool irony.

English audio:
What's up with your signal. Dunno, must be a loose wire.

= Huh?
How do they miss that one?
The voices are so much better in original audio too.
Now I only watch Anime with subtitles. Never english audio.

subs are always superior to any dubbing i've come across even for the big budget titles. i'm not obsessed with any grammatical accuracy as long as the humour isnt lost. the problem is that a lot of the jap humour is quite subtle for a numskull translator. dubbing's always crap as its always c-class actors or pornstars who have enough low self esteem to do it. plus the REALLY annoying thing is the dreaded "15" syndrome from the ealry 80's where they would deliberatley swear when they didnt need to in order to get a 15 certificate so young boys would think it would be a "cool" anime. if you watch violence jack theres one part where the guy just stops and says (and i'm not joking here) : "FUCKING FUCKING SHIT FUCKING SHIT!"

its really pathetic what the importing companies will do to a translation just to sell more copies
