This topic will not be of much interest to those who have never played Final Fantasy VII, but here goes:

Exibit A:  Aeris' best weapon and final limit break.  In order to get these before point in the game where Aeris dies, you have to go through ALOT of shit.  I don't remember exactly, but one of them involves breeding a black or gold chocobo early in the game (a galactic pain in the ass), and the other involves alot of inconvenient backtracking around the point in the game where you first get Cid.

Exibit B:  The 'underwater' materia.  This materia removes the 20 minute time limit when fighting the emerald weapon....  Something that only exists in the american and international versions of the game.  So, why does it exist in the code for the japaneese version?
The original purpose of this item was to allow you to re-access the underground portion of the city of the ancients where Aeris was killed and "burried at sea" as it were.  After an encounter with Aeris's ghost in the sector 7 church (more on this in a moment), you find out that Aeris isn't exactly dead, and wants to come back and help you.  All you then have to go and do is retrieve her body and take it back to the church.

Exibit C:  Aeris's ghost.  As mentioned above, it was originaly planned that if you went back to the sector 7 church, you would meet Aeris's ghost (only if a few other conditions were met, such as remembering her as the flower girl, choosing her over Tifa to spend time with at the gold saucer, etc.).
I read in an article on the internet that if you go to the church, you will for a split second see a wireframe of Aeris floating in the air in the church....  A bit of buggy code that someone forgot to delete when the Aeris revival plot got cut from the game due to deadline restrictions.  I tried it, and i swear to god, it happened.

Exibit D:  General unfinished look to the game.  Take a look at the Knights of the Round summon spell, particularly the last knight.  Doesn't it look very polygon-ated, and a little (to put it mildly) choppy?  Look at the characters any time there's a closeup of them onscreen (besides an fmv).  I realize this was an early PSX game, but can this be called anything other than unfinished?

Exibit E:  Undeveloped plot.  Who was Cloud really?  Was he a the real person he remembers himself to be, or was he just a clone of the real Cloud?!  How exacltly does Zack fit into things?

Exibit F:  Crapy non-ending.  WTF was up with that ending?  Red13 has kids?  Who's the mother?  Did humanity survive?  Whats up with Midgar getting covered with jungle?  WTF?!?!!?

let me know what you think.

right you are taling to the grand master of this game even antzac can't hold a candle to me about this game :)i'm assuming you've been back to the mansion in the town that spehiroth burnt down. in the basement n the 3rd disk you will have a flashback to you knowing zack. un fortunately you never get to tell his parents about him even if you avoid them at the first encounter for some reason they didnt bother putting that into the game.

the aeris ghost thing is true i noticed it once before i read about how she could be brought back to life she appears above the flowers doesnt she.

there is also a trick in the jap version to get infinite gil. behind the clock in the first town you come to on the map in the inn if you press o or x behind it you will recieve a gill i think if you then spend it you get infinite gil or something. i've read a few conflicting reports about how this works but suffice to say it only works in the jap version.

the whole point of the game was that you don't really know what cloud is. all thats revealed really is that he's a shinra bog standard soldier and that zack was really sephiroths apprentice. i'm guessing that a lot of stuff was lost in translation but i think its better if not everything is explained fully.

midgar gets destroyed the cost of the peoples lives is supposed to be overshadowed by the fact that the planet survived to recover from all the mako pollution. cloud and tifa obviously live their lives out and the kids is just to show that red keeps his promise to his father. obviously he finds some hot and horny bint to shack up with. of course you could say that seeing as the mad professor saw that aeris and red could mate you could say its possible that inter species relationships are possible. basically its aeris who saves the day through her sacrifice from the ending shot it almost seems that she knew her destiny before the game started so she knew she had to die in order to save the planet.

on the underwater section you either last 5mins and win or you get nuked you get one chance to kill the underwater emerald the time limit doesnt really matter at all so stop complainnig.  lucky 7's is the way to go my friend.

the knights of the round was probably a bit off at the end due to the PSX's memory limitations. the thing does last like 3 mins ffs. stop complaining about the graphics anywayz they were probably low polygon counts so that they could get the in game fmv streaming to work properly. im ean there hadnt been a game before that that had incorporated that level of stream technology on the PSX.

been a few years since i played, but yead i remember the flashback of knowing Zack.  I also vaugley remember running into him again is some town.....  wish i remembered where.  He was in a bad state, aprently suffereing from the same sort of mako poisening that Cloud had been at one point.

I also heard that the original plans for the game included special endings if you got the secret characters (well vincent was secret, hard to call yuffie secret.....).

Here's a good ff7 tip.  NOTHING in the game is as powerfull as mass numbers of counterattack materias.  Equip 14 mastered counter attack materias on Cid with his ultimate weapon (forgtet the name... venus-something...) along with an attack all materia and a quadra attack materia.  Wait for emerald weapon/ruby weapon/sepheroth/other god-like boss to attack you.....  then try not to look dissapointed when the battle is over 30 seconds later.  56 attacks for 9999 each.  Not even Sephiroth can withstand 559,944 damage!
Also Hades summon+added effect w/attack all w/quadra attack is one of the best materia combos.  Kicks the shit out of all those powerfull non-boss monsters that think they're bosses.

also of note:

you know those gameshark codes you can use to get Aeris back in your party?  Know how its a little glitchy and won't let you get rid of her once you get her back?
i found a work-around for that.
Fly your airship to the final area (i forget what its called) where you fight the final battle with sephiroth.  When you jump off the airship, it asks you to select your party.  you can then choose anyone you want.

gamesharks are for pussies ;)

you dumbass.

you get Aeris's ultimate weapon (Final Heaven, i think) when you cross the river (with the buggy) and get to the cave with the sleeping man. if the last 2 number in the number of battles fought (ex, 233) matched, the guy would give you Mithril. you take that to the weapon seller and choose your prize. one is her weapon, the other is a regular item.

secondly, you CANNOT BREED CHOCOBOS ON THE FIRST DISC. you have to have the damn airship to get around to the various chocobo caputuring spots anyhow.

If you payed close attention to the story, youd know just exactly who Zack, Cloud, and Sephroth are, and how theyre all connected. its been awhile since ive played the game, so i really cant tell you know.

You were actually supposed to be able to bring Aeris back to life with like the pearl materia or something like that, they didn't code it in...  I'm pretty sure their making a remake of all the FF's including FF7 for the PS2 soon, so maybe they'll fix it... god I can't wait to get my hands on that...

Oh, yes, DKB, I'll gladly surrender any title to know FF's better then anyone, I'm not increadably knowledgeable... it has been like 4 years since I played FF7, so I don't remember it as well as I should

eh.gif You can start breeding chocobos as soon as you find the chocobo stables, wich if i remember correctly, is on the first disk.  There's a chocobo capturing spot close to it (though not a good one.)  Without access to all the good chocobo spots, breeding a black one is almost impossible, but not impossible.
The whole thing is based on probability.  You can breed a good chocobo from shit if you feel like reseting your psx about a million times.

that whole aeris revival thing was a hoax. the guy who wrote it admitted it.  you are also ignoring the fact that aeris' death plays a significant and inseperable role at the end of the game. i think that aeris' death added depth to the game, and bringing her back would sevearly diminish one of the pivitol moments of the game, and is exactly the type of soap opera bullshit we don't need.

yeah i get passionate about ff7. it was, and i suspect it always shall be the best game i have ever played.  i think i have totally exhausted that game, but i still love it.

I heard that myself, but i don't buy it.  Supposedly he was an ex employee of Square, fired for something-or-other during the development of FF7.

I'm sure revealing what he did violated some clause in his employeement contract.  Square had him by the balls.
