America - Home of the brave, land of the morons living their entire lives in debt. What the hell is with people living beyound their means? I mean do they not notice that they pay out their ass when they buy something and then only make the minimum payments on it? And who the hell gets stuff from Rent-a-Center/Rent-to-Own type places unless they only need it for a limited time, I mean I've met people who live and die by the kindness of creditors. It's fucking insane, and then they declare bankruptcy.

Anyway, I will be paying for engineering school for a long time - which means I will be in DEBT for a long time.

Know what? It worked. I don't loathe the higher education system. I view it as an investment system in which I'm getting good return on my money. I supported myself through college, I am supporting myself now, and I pay my own loans back.
I'm sorry you seem so bitter about paying your girlfriend's loans, but maybe you oughta tell her that instead of implying that college was a four year vacation that did nothing other than cost you money.

I'm not defending kuru here, just saying this: Quit playing moderator Dysorderia. I'm seeing 90% of your posts run along the lines of "You need to quit it because you're wrong!" when you're just as wrong. Now, this doesn't exactly pertain to this one point in the life cycle, but it's been the basis of most of what I'm reading from you. Higher education worked for you because you went tech. Intel was giving a starting bonus if students would drop out of school and move to San Jose ...it's kinda hard to miss the boat in that field.

My frustration is more specifically on the Bio side of things. It seems that the higher you go in Biology the less you are actually qualified to do in the real world. I know a guy with a PhD in genetics working in a lab for 25K/yr ...WTF!? If he isn't qualified to do anything then why'd the school give him the degree? I mean, he obviously is smart in his field ...so way is he working for crap trying to get real world experience?? Either the degree isn't worth anything, the market is flooded with people who hold that degree, or we are training people for positions where there is just no need to begin with. Shouldn't the educational system make an adjustment somewhere? Why do they even offer BS (bullshit) degrees for stuff like Philosophy of Romantic Literature and such nonsense?
I don't mind paying the bills of my gf because I have been fortunate with work, it just pains me to see her getting shit money for something she specifically studied to do.

I am doing my last year of further education before going on to higher education. I hate what i'm doing at the minute, it's so easy I resent doing it, it's not challenging at all. But of course I have to do it before I have the qualifaications to do H.E.I'd have been in college for six years by the time I leave, and I already have a debt. Because I have a computer I can't afford, an interenet connection I can't afford, a mobile phone I can't afford. And i'm being taxed even though I shouldn't be because I am under 19 and in full time education. SUX
