err.. here's the deal.

im still on dialup (mergh), but have gotten used to it. anyway, for some strange reason, whenever i disconnect, i get a 'new connection window' pop up within about 5 seconds. ive looked through the modem/internet properties, through all my online associated software (live update, gozilla, etc) and it is still wants to reconnect. it's not a terribly big problem; all i have to do is hit cancel, but its kinda bothering me and im wondering why the hell it's doing this.

any idea's?

When you said you checked your internet properties, is it set to automatically dial? It could be that some piece of software is trying to use the network, like AIM, ICQ or whatever. Just some possible suggestions.

some programs which may or may not be 100\% legally acquired REALLY, REALLY like to be registered, and so they have it pop up with a reconnect query to 'encourage' you to do so. My current version of 3Dmax likes to do that, but I really don't care. Of course, you could just be running an obvious app as mentioned.

it could be you have your modem setup with IE and/or outlook. i set my aunts computer up that way, try opening IE and clicking on tools => Internet options => then click on the Connection tab. play around in there and see if that is it

I'm almost positive that Observer is right on the money. That was the exact same thing I was thinking after reading the original post.
