Here's something that pisses me off:Scooby fucking Doo--a show so bad, I can't even sit through a single episode, and I've watched every movie in the Puppet Master series--is dubbed "retro" and "campy" (because it is old and bad), thus making it a huge franchise (well, it seems to be fading now, thank goodness) while a fucking great show like Dexter's Lab, which is one of the best cartoons on TV right now, in my opinion, goes completely unnoticed, and was actually going to be discontinued for a long time. People don't do things because they like them, they do it because it's trendy to. Candy ravers don't wear PowerPuff Girls shirts because they like PowerPuff Girls, they do it because it's just such a trendy, RAVER thing to do. Idiots don't actually LIKE Scooby Doo, they just watch it and say they like it because it's trendy. And so, what does this mean? It means that good shows go completely unnoticed, or even worse, good shows get watched for all the wrong reasons. Most people who watch South Park don't watch it because they find the social satire funny, they watch it because they like jokes about GAY PEOPLE and FARTS. And besides, it's just a cool thing for outsiders to do. Oh, and to keep in the usual spirit of my rants: FUCK FUCK SHIT ASS GODDAMN FUCK, and also, some specific group of people should die. ------------------ Posted by Sithiee on Aug. 19 2000,00:56
i agree, a long time ago, i used to watch pokemon, mostly because all my friends did, and then after a few weeks i woke up (seriously, i had fallen asleep) and realized what a piece of shit it was. about about the good shows going unnoticed, thats so true. fox showed like 3 episodes of their new spiderman series, and nly like 10 of avengers, 2 shows i had seriously been looking forward to for like a year, but because fox was trying to compete with wb's pokemon (and i cant say i blame them) both the new spidey and the avengers got canceled in favor of reruns of digimon and monster rancher(which arent horribly bad shows, but id rather watch spidey and the avengers)....but anyway, i completely agree about trendy cartoons...

Or like, what the fuck is up with the "Family Guy" situation (on Fox)?? It was nominated for a fucking emmy and Fox was on the verge of cancelling it?? Who the fuck is in charge over there??! Are they sniffing paint fumes or something? An EMMY!! E-M-M-Y!! That would be like having a half-completed movie nominated for best picture because it looks so awesome, and then deciding to cancel it because some people just won't "get it".I guess the typical audience member is just too dim to get all the witty humor in that show... not enough shots of people farting and burping. It's amazing that with people like that, the Simpsons ever managed to survive... -FFox ------------------ "A christian, an anarchist-slash-prostitute, figures out the true meaning of freedom. The Critic syndrome: A show that is LIKE the Simpsons, but has none of the humor for the viewer of lower intelligence, thus meaning it gets low ratings.------------------ Posted by Sithiee on Aug. 19 2000,20:45
true that, the critic was so incredibly funny. one of my favorite scenes to this day is the gun vending machine. "are you a criminal? yes/no" thats so fucking funny...
Posted by Firefox on Aug. 19 2000,21:49
Damn, the Critic was one of the finest cartoons I've ever watched. It ranks right up there with the Simpsons and Family Guy, etc. You are soo right- what makes it so funny is the high level of humour, which is unfortunately lost on 2/3rd's of the moronic populace.-FFox ------------------ "A christian, an anarchist-slash-prostitute, figures out the true meaning of freedom. On the topic of stupid networks, here in Canada, we have YTV. Usually it's a pretty shitty network, except for a few shows. One of these shows is Dragonball Z, we all know that this is a pretty kick ass show, but they've been playing re-runs for a couple of months. For a few days, they took it off and replaced it with Gundam Wing, which some of us know is a even better show. But, since a few whiny kids complained, no one even gave it a chance and it was removed from the line up and the Dragonball Z re-runs are back.Stupid people suck, that is all. while i personally am not particularly into anime, i can relate. they used to have an awesome show called phantom 2040. it was based on the old phantom comic from the papers, but in the future, drawn by the person who did aeon flux. needless to say, the show ruled. they got out like a season and a half before it got canceled. i dont know why they canceled it though, they obviously had a pretty big following, they managed to get out a console game, merchandise, and even a comic book based on the show...come to think of it, the only show that i know of that rocks and has lasted more than 5 seasons and is still good is the simpsons...thats fucked...

man, I love captain star in all it's badly drawn glory. and the tick! damn! Posted by Hellraiser on Aug. 20 2000,20:21
The gods of cartoons are the cartoons from the golden age of cartoonery: Luney toons and Tom and Jerry. Everything else pales in comparison. And for the record, Scooby Doo is one of the shitiest cartoons ever created. Dexter's Lab isn't any better either.------------------ Posted by Firefox on Aug. 21 2000,03:53
quote: How about "Duckman"? It's in the similar vein... It really reminds me a lot of the old Groucho Marx type humor... just modernized, and "cartoonized". ------------------ ICQ: 436346 Posted by Ozymandias on Aug. 21 2000,20:41
Duckman is great because even though some of the references are out of date, most of it still holds true to newer fads. Of course, this could just be because, at heart, all fads are the same. The Tick comic was better. Anyone ever seen Freakazoid? That one was hilarious. ------------------ Posted by caseman984 on Aug. 21 2000,22:43
I hate Scooby Doo, not just because it sucks ass, but also because my ex-girlfriend's name is Daphne.. God I'll never live down "makin out in the mystery machine"oh and the following shows 0wn(d): Dexters Lab, Family Guy, Spiderman 2040, The Critic, both DBZ and Gundam W, Duckman, and Freakazoid... Dilbert ain't to bad either, what happend to that? ------------------ Posted by starduck on Aug. 22 2000,19:45
yeah man, heero is my idolhe's so cool but we don't get cartoon network up here, so we gotta deal with...ugh...teletoon allthough ytv does show powerpuff girls and dexter's lab sometimes Posted by Firefox on Aug. 22 2000,21:32
Teletoon carries a lot of good shows Starduck. You just have to find the right time to watch it. During the day, most of the cartoons kinda blow. At nighttime, they have stuff like Simpsons reruns, Duckman, etc. All about timing. -FFox ------------------ ICQ: 436346 Posted by Sithiee on Aug. 22 2000,23:51
we dont get cartoon network. that right there is bad enough. but worse, for some reason out cable provider finds it humorous to taunt us by showing lots of cartoon network commercials...ctva is eeevvviiill.

Why haven't anybody said Futurama yet? That one rocks...
Posted by Bozeman on Aug. 23 2000,11:07
All the cartoons mentioned so far rule, especially Freakazoid.Wait, someone mentioned Pokemon, okay scratch that. Never mind, I'll just go watch Gundam Wing and Tenchi on Cartoon Network. I know theyr'e edited, but they are still pretty cool. Posted by j0eSmith on Aug. 23 2000,19:50
Futurama kicks ass! Along with Family Guy, The Simpsons, Captain Star (thats very un-scientific) Duckman, Kevin Spencer! Anyone ever see that? That show fucking cracks me up. And Freakaziod! almost forgot that one ------------------ When my flying days are over, and my death has come to pass I hope they bury me upside down, so the whole damn world can kiss my ass [This message has been edited by j0eSmith (edited August 23, 2000).] Posted by aventari on Aug. 23 2000,20:30
It totally sucks how everytime i turn on Cartoon Network- all thats on is Scooby Doo or Looney Toons or some god-awful cartoon nobody in their right mind would _ever_ find funny!Meanwhile you have to wait until 1:30am or something for something truly innovative and great, like Space Ghost Coast to Coast. if you haven't seen that show yer missing out! Best cartoons: (in order of awesomeness) ------------------ Posted by Rol3x on Aug. 24 2000,03:13
the tick. thats just a fucking cool show. damn i love that thing but i havent seen it in years. dragonballZ is cool as fuck. used to watch it after soccer practice and then i moved. no family guy is hilarious, but the kid is the funniest, and the simpsons is funny as fuck too, and no one can bash it ever.i used to think aeon flux was madd wierd but it was also really damn cool. i wish they hadnt gotten rid of it.and dextors lab is fuckin great. SGC2C is GONE, and from the looks of things it isn't coming back.It happened around the same time as two of my other favorite shows disappeared: UCB and Clerks: The Cartoon. Which very few people have seen because they showed the first episode twice, and the second episode once. Out of curiosity, why cancel a show because it has low ratings when it's appeal is to a small cult following already, and then you bump it back three times, and then give VERY, VERY LITTLE WARNING about when it's ACTUALLY going to be showin? Screw0r you, ABC! ------------------ Posted by zac503 on Aug. 24 2000,21:12
i just realized i dont like scooby doo. your right i just sorta said i liked it and watched it. i'd much rather watch dexters laboratory(cool ass cartoon) than scooby doo .i do like south park well , because its funny to here 8 year olds cuss. plus cartoons i like always get canceled . i liked god the devil and bob but canceled. and whtas up with this nikolodien crap like sponge bob square pants? everyone who watches that show is automatically dumber than everyone else
Posted by Sithiee on Aug. 24 2000,22:17
the clerks cartoon sucked major ass. im sorry, but it really did. it wasnt funny at all, nothing particularly like the movie, and jay and silent bob were a joke. theyre main gig was repeating lines from the movies. and if youre tired of stuff getting cancelled, get a nielson box and show them what good tv really is. you realize that most of the people with nielson boxes are people in trailer homes who like to watch white trash tv shows.
Posted by starduck on Aug. 24 2000,22:36
uh, nickelodeon rulesbut some of there shows are for younger audiences, such as spongebob that's like saying "boy, what kind of a loser watches magic school bus?" Posted by j0eSmith on Aug. 25 2000,06:24
Yeah it is like saying "what kind of loser at our collective average ages watches the magic school bus?" I belive that is the context it was meant for. ------------------ Posted by Sithiee on Aug. 25 2000,13:25
nickelodeon used to have some awesome shows...doug, ren and stimpy, rocko's modern life...now those shows rocked...
Posted by Bozeman on Aug. 25 2000,19:47
Nickelodeon had a good thing with Ren and Stimpy, then fucked it up by firing John Krefalski. (sp?) He was the creator and the original voice of Ren. After he was fired, the shows got to be all the same. Also, does anyone remember War Planets? It was a good cartoon, but was cancelled. It was made by Mainframe Entertainment, but cancelled before it had an ending. I don't care how bad a show's ratings are, if you cancel it, you shold at least give it an ending episode. Posted by Sithiee on Aug. 26 2000,00:03
heh, did you see scary movie?...when he breaks down about wayan brothers not even getting a final episode...funny shit man....funny shit..
Posted by Ozymandias on Aug. 26 2000,01:33
Rocko was a great cartoon.But--and I swear, I am the only person I have ever heard of who thinks this--Ren And Stimpy was lame. It sucked. Really, REALLY bad. ------------------ Posted by Sithiee on Aug. 26 2000,02:46
nope, my mom agrees with you...every time i watch it, she just makes this face when she goes through the room...sorta like "i cant believe i raised you this way"

I used to watch Aeon Flux before it got pulled. I loved that programme.I geuss the next best thing would have to be Evangelion, I still don't follow it too good, but the animation rocks! Posted by Bozeman on Aug. 27 2000,14:57
Aeon Flux ruled, ut what pissed me off was that I never saw the last episode of The Maxx. I loved that cartoon, but I don't know what happened in the end. Please fill me in.
Posted by Firefox on Aug. 29 2000,18:24
quote: Yeah, I remember it. It was pretty cool. I used to watch Reboot all the time, and so I watched War Planets when it came out. I stopped watching it for a while, and then bang, it's gone. That sucks. By the way, they have different names in Canada... in the US, they had "Beast Wars"... it was "Beasties" in Canada. Also, it wasn't called "War Planets", it went by the other name in the title which I can't even remember right now... And I thought the Clerks cartoon was funny. It was inane, and most of the humor is just centered around 5 second throw-away jokes, but so is "Family Guy", and that show is wickedly funny. I think it blows that even though they made like 6 episodes of Clerks for ABC, they decided to only show 2 of them and just chuck out the others. I mean, come on- they've already paid for them, why not just show all 6 and then if the ratings suck, don't buy any more? No, they have to go and only show two of them, while keeping the rights to the others meaning even if Kevin Smith wanted to show them elsewhere he couldn't. I think ABC is going through shock, though... they had incredible ratings in the spring from Millionaire and Spin City, Drew Carey, etc... then the summer hits and Survivor completely takes over. I'd say that they are hurting a little bit. But back on topic... all the quality, more mature cartoons seem to be the ones that get the boot, while all the idiotic mindless cartoons are the big hits. Go figure. -FFox ------------------ ICQ: 436346 Posted by mqa on Aug. 30 2000,03:14
anyone ever see Exo Squad? That was the best american cartoon i have ever seen. most of the time when i want goodcartoos i have to import them from japan. SCOOBY DOO SUCKS ASS FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by Bozeman on Aug. 31 2000,13:10
For some reason in Canada, the title can't have war in it. I.E: Beast Wars = Beasties, and War Planets = Shadow Raiders.Hmm... Exo Squad, was that about mecha? Fighing aliens with blue skin? Or am I wrong? Posted by Cyrino on Aug. 31 2000,21:42
Well, not exactly, they are Exo suits, like on Aliens. Like powered armour. And yes, Exo Squad did rule.------------------ Posted by proteus on Sep. 06 2000,09:45
The Clerks toon WAS good and funny. The problem with the 2 ABC aired is that they weren't in order. I think the first one they aired was actually episode 5. The second one they aired was Episode 2, but it would have been funnier if ABC had aired Ep1 first, since Ep2 was a "flashback" episode. Personally I'd love to see all 6, in order. Damn ABC. maybe it's just because of my age, but i LIKE scooby doo. i always have. back when i was a little kid and didn't realize how drug induced it was, and now when i can sit there, watch it, and realize all the things that went way over my head. i can't stand most anime, i don't watch the cartoon network (i don't even have cable), but if i catch old cartoons on, like old flintstones, the jetsons, scooby doo, smurfs, gummi bears, transformers, thundercats, pop-eye.. i still watch 'em. maybe they're not the most intellectual of cartoons, they're not supposed to be. they were entertaining, and they're a huge part of my childhood. i look back really fondly to being 2 years old and actually afraid of the monsters on scooby doo, or really hated brutus because he was such an ass to olive oyle. y'all can have pikachu and dragonball z. i'll stick with shaggy and scooby and watch velma lose her glasses. ------------------ Posted by jrh1406 on Sep. 11 2000,10:56
I too like scooby-doo, i love anime too, not that weak dragonball z and pokemon stuff, gotta watch neo-evangelion and escaflowne. now that's some real anime Posted by L33T_h4x0r_d00d on Oct. 13 2000,18:52
