I'm 14 and my parents won't let me play any game rated mature (There afraid I'm going to pick up a gun and shoot everyone). If it weren't for them and the fucking ESRB i'd be playing Half-Life right now but nooo. I bet the ESRB is composed of drunk lunatics pulled form the street. I mean take Bushido Blade, that game is rated teen and it's a hell of alot more violent than, say, Thief: The dark project (And thief is newer too). Do they rate these games while high/drunk?

No, they're just frickin' morons. Kinda like the MPAA and their ratings, too.

As one of the guys who created South Park said in an interview, "These are people who have NEVER rocked in their LIFE". They have no concept of fun other than what they show on PBS.------------------ Posted by reman on Aug. 03 2000,23:45
Does this mean you cant play counter-strike?That's fuxored man. I tell you what I am a responsible adult...if you want I can write an email to your perants telling them how much they suxor because they are not allowing you to be exposed to one of the best mod's ever. regards, reman ------------------ Posted by Firefox on Aug. 04 2000,01:15
That sucks. I remember buying Doom 2 when I was 14... the sticker right on it said "M- MATURE- 17 and over" and I marched right up and plopped it on the counter, and bought it. A few years after that, all the hype about violence in games started, so I don't know if you could do that these days. Ratings suck. Age restrictions in general are kinda stupid. I know 16 year olds who are far more responsible and mature than some whacked-out 25 year old moron.

well, usually i dont really pay attention to the ratings, but every once in a while i see their effect. i used to go to a camp (yeah, i know, shut up, they taught me how to have mad programming skills) and after columbine, they wouldnt allow any first person shooters, or anything rated M. i suddenly found the only thing that i could play that was any fun was mechwarrior 3 (it was a technicallity, cause there was a third person mode, naturally, we didnt have to use it) but ive noticed that any game that ends up having good gameplay, or a really awesome storyline, or both, becomes rated mature. at least the movies have a better system, where if theres lots of nudity, cursing, or violence, they rate it higher. and i can see the need too. im thankful for it though, i mean i love the high i get from tricking movie theatre people into thinking im old enough to go see rated r movies. i mean i know its not that big a deal, but i still love it. too bad im gonna be 17 in the 31st =(....ive gotten off topic though, havent i?

The whole damn thing pisses me off.Why are we letting people tell us what we can and can't watch? Really, isn't it the PARENTS' job to not let their kid see a movie that they don't approve of? I mean, why should movies sacrifice some of the best scenes for the sake of kiddifying things so that the little darlings don't get any awful, awful ideas in their cute little heads? Besides, even if the MPAA cuts shit out, it's useless since it's all just going to be released on DVD half a year later. And it's even easier to RENT a movie than get in in the theatres. Besides, haven't you ever watched an unedited version of a movie, and then thought "Jeez, I wish I could've seen that in the theatres". Fucking assholes. I mean, for the love of humanity, IT'S PICTURES ON A SCREEN. Anyone dumb enough to be that heavily influenced by a movie would be too frightened by the concept of moving pictures. "Well, there were copycat murders based on Natural Born Killers! Logically, this movie should be BANNED, and all evidence of its existence should be DESTROYED!" Anyone that damned unstable is going to kill. Who knows, maybe going on a NBK-style killing spree was better than what they would've done had they never seen the movie. For more on why movies should have NO CONFLICT OR RESOLUTION, VIOLENCE, OR HUMOR WHATSOEVER, you can read up on it < here >. ------------------ Posted by Firefox on Aug. 04 2000,23:04
quote: Oh my god. I just checked out that page, and I've got to say it was soo bad. I mean, there is nothing really wrong with a movie rating site in principle, but the wanton Christian influence and some of their rating systems are disgraceful. Scenes giving any implication of homosexuality worsen the score of the movie?? You have got to be fucking kidding me. How about we just ignore all the parts of society we don't like? If we ignore them, that means they don't exist, right?? I read their review of X-Men, and screw movie ratings, it was more a huge Christian bible rant. To give you an idea, they said that the implication that humans would "evolve" into different states was absurd... And then they talk about how the storyline behind the X-Men fighting for tolerance of mutants was a veil for "pro-homosexuality" supporters. Who writes this shit?? You have got to be kidding me. I have to say that believe it or not, this stuff is almost as bad as Jack Chicks' tracts. *cough cough* I want to rant and rave more about that site, but it won't do anything but make me even more pissed off, so lets just leave it at this- That site is disgraceful. -FFox ------------------ "A christian, an anarchist-slash-prostitute, figures out the true meaning of freedom. It's also been a concern of mine to avoid movies with characters that 'DEFY RIGHTEOUS AUTHORITY'. When will people finally learn that sex is WRONG AND DIRTY, and that independent thought MUST BE STAMPED OUT?! Honestly, I was appalled by the X-men movie after I saw it. How could they make heroes out of those HOMOSEXUAL mutants? They should have locked up those mutants or better yet KILLED THEM ALL. WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO?????!!!!!11

How dare those satanic movie producers try to instill free thought in our heads! For God's sake, we must rise up against them! I call for all good, pure Christians to do what the lord would expect of us... KILL all the heathens!!
Any movie review that finds connections between certain "objectionable scenes" and bible verses gets very little respect from me. -FFox ------------------ "A christian, an anarchist-slash-prostitute, figures out the true meaning of freedom. Good point.I enjoyed that some of their highest rated movies were like "Mary Poppins" and some crap... I also enjoy how a signifigant rating they give is based on how rebellious or disrespectful children in the movie are to their parents. They would probably blast Disney's "The Kid" as sinful, because that little kid yells at Bruce Willis. Heathen! The heretical imp shall fry for all eternity for that outrage! -FFox ------------------ "A christian, an anarchist-slash-prostitute, figures out the true meaning of freedom. Oh, and also, for including HALLOWEEN DECORATIONS. And on SPAWN? Well, obviously they're going to complain about that movie, but I never would've guessed they'd've hated it for containing SATANIC MUSIC. It's really beyond words. Hot damn, i just read through the back to school special, and that guy needs to lay off the crack, he looks at symbols that have absolutly no connection with satan and stretches them until they fit. Now i need to go and find out what the symbols really mean
Posted by Firefox on Aug. 06 2000,04:53
What do you mean. That wise fellow speaks to the wisdom of His eternal kingdom of righteousness and holy suffrage of... the sacred command of the hallowed halls containing the enlightened of the... uhm... thing.I enjoy how the Star of David is considered "one of the worst symbols of witchcraft"... How much money do you want to bet that the reason it's such a foul symbol isn't that it's associated with ancient hexes and witchcraft, but more likely that it is the symbol of the "murderous jews, may they burn in hell..." Sorry pal, your religious hatred can be seen from a mile away. Oh yes, I also enjoyed his mention that Hitler signed an unholy pact with Satan. Reeeally.... which history text book did you read THAT in?? Oh wait, I forgot. All books are created by Satan, except for the bible. Therefore, every book on earth should be burned, aside from the bible. I think he would be interested to know that Hitler often justified his actions as upholding pure Christian beliefs... remember, that Hitler believed his uber-race, which he strived for, would follow only the single pure Christian faith... But since they were killing the "evil Jews", maybe they weren't so bad after all, right? I also enjoy him slamming symbols like the ying-yang and the peace cross. Remember, ideals like peace and balance are EVIL, and should be struck down. Remember, peace is just an evil plot created by Satan to putrify young minds. We must fight this terrible principle by brutally murdering any heretical non-Christian. And while we are at it, why not throw in some severe assault and torture? Being a "pure" Christian is so much fun! Phsaw, this stuff gets worse all the time. It's really scary, when you think of it... I wonder if these people realize that acts like the Crusades, the Inquisition, the Waco Cult, have ALL been carried out in the name of Christ... not because the teachings are all flawed, but because they have been interpreted by stupid, manipulative, hateful people who only strive to increase their personal power by using fear and intimidation. Remember, personal religion is a sin. A personal relationship with God, or a god, is a sin. You MUST obey the command of these obviously ENLIGHETENED people, or else you are a sinner. Believe it or not, I was far more respectful of Christian religion before I began reading sites like this. If anything, every site I read drives me further and further away from it, which is kinda too bad, because I do think that at it's basic level, the religion has some value. Too bad these hopeless morons have completely ruined that. Bah. -FFox ------------------ "A christian, an anarchist-slash-prostitute, figures out the true meaning of freedom. acording to that site, Islam is really just another cult of satan too, you should read his report "It won't likely matter... What the movies are rated." Posted by Rol3x on Aug. 06 2000,18:30
i hate poeple like that, and they should be shot at least once in the face. followed by a vigorus lemon juice sprtizing to the wound of course. about the pentagram pentacle thing, dammit, if its pointed up, its good, if its pointed down, its bad. the guy says right there that hes just going to address it as if it was the same fucking thing. that pissed me off. well, not really, it would if i was into goth shit or retarded symbols like that, but i just happen to know the differance between the two. largely because i consider myself to be well learned and open-minded, as apposed to the jackass who wrote all that shit, who is a narrow-minded, anal-invading packet monkey.
Posted by Happyfish on Aug. 06 2000,19:13
Being brought up Christian (not that I really am now) I can see where he's coming from but if he's going to go to those extremes over symbols then he shouldn't be exposing himself to things like secular movies:'Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark was not too far off with "Hilter's a nut on the subject." ' Those evil movies might lead him away from God too. Posted by Ozymandias on Aug. 06 2000,20:05

The worst part is, it's whatever Christians/Catholics are disagreeing with this week. They seem to carry a lot of power, so anything that a bunch of crazy fundamentalists condemn is suddenly a "controversy" when, really, if a lot of other groups did it, it wouldn't get half as much attention.Which sucks, because the Bible is against all that fun stuff. And any fun stuff that the Bible isn't specifically against, then the Christians are against. Ah well. you know the most jacked up thing about their site?they're all supposed to be deeply moral religious people with only the finest of values and purest of thoughts..... so why in the hell are they watching all these downright "evil" movies.... and why are they the only ones who can pick out all these heavily veiled subtexts? maybe it's because people see what they look for. also, i'm a well adjusted adult who's never killed anyone or had anything but the most normal of angry impulses. i got in my share of fights as a kid, but nothing outrageous....and get this, i may not've played violent video games, but i've been a target shooter since age six, and owned my own guns since age 12. i guess that shits the theory that every kid exposed to "weapons" of any kind will turn out to be ted bundy. if having actual guns didn't turn me into a serial killer, i doubt a fuckin video game is gonna do it. ------------------ Posted by Sithiee on Sep. 11 2000,20:03
yeah, i hate it when people assume cause you can play a violent game you can also shoot a rifle. i play a shitload of violent games, and as most people who do will tell you, it doesnt make you more violent, it makes you more calm. like for example, last friday i was pissed as hell about somethin goin on with one of my friends, i mean like i wanted to tear someones head off(before i went to play some violent video games). saturday, i go to the arcade, i play xmen vs street fighter (the undisputed best of that series) for like half an hour, and afterwards, the person i was upset at could come up to me and yell explicatives for an hour at me, and i couldnt of cared less, because i didnt have any anger left, i took it out on the machine.also, i dont feel like looking up to see if i already said this, but i do play a shitload of violent video games, but i couldnt break 200 at rifle if my life depended on it (being out of 300, i usually get like 120 or so). hence, anyone who says violent video games = violent people is just talking out of their ass. Posted by morganisms on Sep. 11 2000,20:15
damn, been reading that site for a few hours, its funny as hell! like -suggestive eye movment! hahaor even better was galaxy quest which they rated real low, lamers! -alien with evil intent -wtf? omg these people just pick these movies apart, for what reason, people know when a movie is good or bad, they go see it! common sense says you should see a movie before your kids anyway if your that worried. Posted by Bozeman on Sep. 11 2000,21:03
Does that include Pokemon movies?
Posted by Sithiee on Sep. 11 2000,22:05
pokemon movies are evil. theyre teaching our children that if you have a problem with someone, you should solve it with violence. example:todaysbadguy: I dont like you, im going to steal your pokemon!!!! ash: HEY!!!! thats not fair. lets have a battle, and then whoever wins can keep the pokemon! todaysbadguy: OK!!! they battle, ash of course wins. todaysbadguy: wow, you sure beat my ass into submission, lets be friends! ash: ok, only cause i know i could kick your ass any day of the week! and thats the formula for an episode of pokemon. granted, barney doesnt please me, but at least he doesnt tell chilluns to solve their problems through violence. Posted by Hellraiser on Sep. 12 2000,00:46
Well I'm a fair hand at some violent video games, and I can shoot a gun pretty damn well, but I've never once even contemplated killing someone. I live in a house where there are 3 males and between us we own 8 guns, but never once have any of us been involved in a violent crime, or even a shooting accident. With all things, people need to have responsibility: it is the lack of responsibility in today's society that allows shitheads like that to turn the blame for peoples actions on objects such as video games and guns instead of leaving the blame where it belongs: smack on the head of the person who has done the deed. 'Nuf said. Oh, and Pokemon is evil, I think whoever thought up that shitty show should be shot in the back of the head with a 357, except that I don't condone killing a person unless they have done a criminal deed, or in war which is an entirely different situation. Posted by kuru on Sep. 12 2000,02:20
there were anywhere between 50 and 100 guns in the house i grew up in... mine are around me all the time, in whatever mood i'm in. sometimes, when i get truly pissed off or enraged, i grab about 300 rounds and a gun and go to the shooting range and pound lead through the barrel for a good two hours. once i've gone through about 100 rounds, i start calming down and paying attention.. 200 rounds and i'm totally focused. then i take them in 10 round sets (that's how big the clip is) and try to go 10 for 10... you get really disciplined, i'd never consider just going off and killing someone... i've got this respect for my guns, they're like extensions of me. the shooting, the maintenence, the cleaning, it's a respect issue i guess. for the same reason that though a black belt can kill someone bare handed, he doesn't do it.... i don't even consider going near my gun if i'm gonna fight with someone. it would go against all my years of training. ------------------ Posted by BLacK-JEsuS on Sep. 12 2000,03:36
