Is it just me or has the price of gas dropped like 80 cents since the end of summer?Do the oil companys think we dont notice things like this? I have checked. We are not inporting any more or less oil. the global price has not changed all that much in the past 3 months. WTF are they trying to pull with this shit? I think its time to find every oil company CEO and kick him in the balls till he sees the error of his ways. ------------------ Posted by TonyDennis on Nov. 20 2001,14:53
No shit! I want to go back to paying ũ.50+!This 95c/gallon is really starting to piss me off! Posted by ic0n0 on Nov. 20 2001,18:36
Gas is still expensive here in milwaukee and chicago damn refomulated gas------------------ Posted by Rhydant on Nov. 21 2001,00:41
Oklahomo's are paying 97 cents/gallon.whats the country coming too? Posted by Dark-Angel99 on Nov. 21 2001,00:43
Lowest gas I have seen so far is 93 cents... It's supposed to go down to around 70 cents by Christmas! This is great!
Posted by blanalex on Nov. 21 2001,01:35
You all should come refill your cars in Quebec, it's about 68¢ for the regular and 72¢ for super
Posted by miNus on Nov. 21 2001,02:38
Yeah but in Canada, the top of your heads aren't attached to the bottom. Trust me, I've seen it, it's scary.Secondly, your 'super' is probably like 2 octane or something silly like that. Posted by solid on Nov. 21 2001,03:33
Um.. I don't really pay much attention to how gas quality works or not, I could really care less.. but I'd like to point out that we get 68 canadian cents for these gas prices. That's like.. 45 cents american. Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Nov. 21 2001,08:58
oh fuck off! we have to pay £0.75 for a fucking litre of petrol here!------------------ Posted by Hellraiser on Nov. 21 2001,10:40
quote: You have to factor in conversions too. 68¢ per litre is actually equivalent to Ū.60 or Ū.70 Canadian dollars per gallon, which works out to ũ.75-ũ.80 American. Thus we get the better deal, our gas costing roughly 1/2-2/3 as much, depending on local. ------------------ Posted by kai on Nov. 21 2001,15:29
wtf, ũ.31 here. shouldn't the big cities cost more or something for some reason?------------------ Posted by Rhydant on Nov. 21 2001,15:56
gas is in the ũ.20~ũ.35 range.in downtown SD, its aboot the same. Posted by L33T_h4x0r_d00d on Nov. 21 2001,18:47
If you go out into the boonies here you can get it for $.98 regualar and ũ.18 super. That is from respectable gas stations, ie exxon, mobil, chevron. If you put gas in a gas can and it looks brown, thats bad. It should be clear or pink. ------------------ Posted by blanalex on Nov. 21 2001,20:46
quote: eheheh you should consider that's 68 cents/liter and not 68¢/gal. :P 1 us gallon = 3.78 L and 1$CA = 0.62$US so, 0.679$CA/L = 2.567$CA/gal = 1.591$US/gal that's the most expensive in Canada because of the over-tax we have to pay in Quebec (that's a tax over the subtotal and every other taxes.) ------------------ Posted by j0eSmith on Nov. 21 2001,22:52
Know whats a piss off?Gas here in BC is down to (I use the term DOWN loosly) to ~69.9c/litre. One province over (Alberta) The price of gas there is ~49.9c/litre. Same crude oil prices. Same companies. But BC has 20c worth of road tax on our gas. And the roads are in pisspoor shape. ------------------ Posted by askheaves on Nov. 22 2001,01:55
quote: A corellary to that. Don't go out into the boonies to buy gas. Buy it from places that do a lot of business so the gas cycles quicker in the tanks. I know this because my car, after 100,000 miles of being a company car for a civil engineering company and spending a lot of time getting gas in rural towns, the fuel pump finally died because the gas tank had about 2 gallons of sediment in it. Not worth the 10c per gallon difference. Posted by Hellraiser on Nov. 22 2001,03:01
quote: Okay, so I was off by 10 cents or so. Not bad considering I did all the math in my head on the spur of the moment. Figuring on ũ.50 canadian for every ũ.00 American. I see its gone down some. ------------------ Posted by mqa on Nov. 22 2001,05:40
not in hawaii!!!! here all the gas companies conspire to rape us consumers up the ass! gas prices have fallen all of 10¢ in the past 3 months to a whoping ũ.80! this is while they're being sued by the state for conspiring to keep prices artifically high. one piece of evidence presented is that hawaii accounts for 5\% of chevrons stations, but 20\% of their profits. chevron denies it of course. i sure hope those gas company bastards get nailed.
Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Nov. 22 2001,05:58
well the british government fully admit that they delibritly tax petrol by 80\%!!! 2\% to the oil companys and the rest stuff like transport costs and shit like that.the importnat thing is that they fucking tax the petrol by 80\%!!!!!! so all you other people can stop fucking complaining right now! ------------------ Posted by Greasemonk on Nov. 22 2001,10:02
I guess all the SUV drivers better stock up on the gas while they can. I still cant believe some of them only get 10mpg. I wonder what the bigass Suburban type SUVs get...------------------ Posted by L33T_h4x0r_d00d on Nov. 22 2001,12:40
quote: If its a quality brand station the difference between the innercity and rural stations should be negligable because they are all pretty much filled from the same trucks, use a sump pickup, and there shouldnt be too many impurities to sediment anyway. If your fuel pump dies from clogged tank sock/fuel filter some one has probably been putting gas in it from racetrak, BP or costco. Theres probably a reason you can get low grade for Ũ.49 a gallon. ------------------ Posted by Neophyre on Nov. 22 2001,17:17
damn americans..whinge whinge whinge... come to australia and look at the petrol prices.78 cents AU per LITRE!!! Posted by askheaves on Nov. 22 2001,23:48
I bought the car at 100K, and it's worked fine since... until the day I went to the mall with 3 coworkers to get my Xbox and have food court lunch. We got back to the car, and it wouldn't start. That was exactly the problem: nasty shit in the gas tank killing the fuel pump slowly. Cost me a bundle too, because I don't have the time or tools to fix a fuel pump inside a gas tank. They took care of it with only a slight problem of screwing up the connector on one hose causing me to pour 5 gallons of petrol down the road while trying to refuel.Anyway, prices around here are cheap enough that I've been buing mid-grade out of general fear (ũ.25/gallon). I'm still of the mindset that more expensive = better/cleaner. I should know better considering that it took 100,000 miles to destroy this pump and I don't plan on having it that much longer. I'm glad I don't live in Milwaukee anymore. Milwaukee and Chicago have been screwed for the last year or so for no reason at all. We use the same reformulated gas they do, but the gas companies are screwing them in the ass. It makes no sense. Posted by aventari on Nov. 23 2001,00:54
unless your car was designed for it, putting anything more than regular will not help at all. The only reason it _might_ is because they add cleaners to it. but if thats a concern, use the cheap stuff, and buy a bottle of techron every 6 months. In fact, thats a very good thing to do anyways. Trust me, dont waste your money on mid grade either. Go with the cheap shit, or the expensive stuff if your car can use it. ------------------ Posted by miNus on Nov. 23 2001,10:17
You're wrong aventari. The cheap shit is called 'the cheap shit' for a reason. What happens is the lower octane and the contaminants make your engine knock, and the knocks sensors retard your ignition timing to compensate (that's why you don't hear knocks from using cheap gas). It would all be fine except, when you retard the timing, you lose horsepower, so you have to work the car harder to get the same performance out of it. This decreases your gas mileage too. I've been using mid grade in my car for the past 6 months or so. When I switched over, I noticed a BIG increase in power (well, I was really just regaining lost power), so it is well worth the $.10 premium over the 'cheap stuff'. Yeah, toot. Complain about gas prices... how about you move to a country where the ecologist party is in the government? THEN you'll see what "expensive gas" really means. The green party is trying to eventually rise the gas price to 5 Deutschmarks a litre. ------------------ Posted by kuru on Nov. 23 2001,12:52
Part of the reason gas prices are dropping is that we're now getting oil from our former enemies the good ol' Russians.Who, btw, just told OPEC to shove it up their ass and piss up a rope, they will NOT cut production so that prices will rise. OPEC (All those ME countries) is quite fucking pissed off at Russia for exporting oil to America... and cheaply. Cheers to Russia for telling them to suck dick. I like my 99.9/gal fill ups. Too bad we couldn't have had this going on sooner. But Bill 'I will suck Middle Eastern dick if it leaves me a legacy' Clinton never would've let it happen. ------------------ Posted by aventari on Nov. 23 2001,18:12
quote: Yeah, but rest assured it's not altruism. Just business. Norway just said they'd drop production 200,000 barrels/day and so have MExico, OPEC, and everyone. All this on condition that Russia will drop production too. And they will. It's the oil companies getting together and artifically inflating prices by agreeing to cut supply. Which is fucked up if you think about it. BUT on the other hand, oil is in very limited supply, so I think curtailing production in the long run is a good thing. We need reliance on different modes of power, this is painfully obvious. Fuel cells, nuclear, solar, etc. but it will never happen until oil prices go crazy high. It's kind of sad. We have to complete fuck things up before we fix them. Even if we see it coming. Anyways, gas prices are going up again without a doubt, enjoy it while you can. ------------------ Posted by blanalex on Nov. 23 2001,20:27
I saw the gaz price today in my town: 59.9¢/l for the regular... about 1.42US/galIf the trend continues, we might get as low as 45.5¢/l before spring Posted by aletros on Nov. 24 2001,07:57
Some places prices haven't changed more than 10 cents/gal in the last year. Hawaii is averaging about ũ.80US/gal for 'cheap shit'. Yay for one of highest costs of living in the U.S.!
Posted by Hellraiser on Nov. 24 2001,11:24
But you've also got the best fucking location in the US. You know how much us mainlanders pay for a two week visit to your home state? So don't complain.------------------ Posted by TheTaxMan on Nov. 24 2001,15:13
It's about ũ.03/gal in Tampa. It's been dropping steadily for about 3 months from about ũ.20-ũ.30. Most of those suburbans (the newer ones anyway) get ok gas mileage as long as they're in reasonable repair.------------------ quote: Posted by L33T_h4x0r_d00d on Nov. 25 2001,02:08

Okay, I dislike Omaha too (that's where I live when not at college), but that was just unfair. Grass grows just fine, it's only brown and grey in the winter, etc. What do you expect when you're that far north!?!This message has been edited by ASCIIMan on November 27, 2001 at 09:52 AM Posted by StanVanDam on Nov. 26 2001,21:46
64 Canadian cents per litre for normal unleaded over here. Our CVs use premium from petro-canada only, because its the newest station here meaning less crap in the tanks, and close to the school. Their gas seems pretty high quality. I was goin to put some more gas in the car for the first time in a few weeks (not with my money as usual anyway) and I looked at the sign. "WTF...it was just 75.somethin and 80.somethin the other week...since when did it turn 64?!?" is what I said.So yeah, gas prices got a helluva lot cheaper now. |
