too bad the link is mysteriously dead. Are you at liberty to share your story? ------------------ Posted by peregrin on Sep. 03 2001,21:07
i made the mistake of abusing the ability to manipulate ip addresses at my school, and sort of changed them all so that all of the server ip's were replaced with the ip's of printers. it took the techies 2 and 1/2 weeks to fix the problem. 3 months after the fact they pulled me from class and said: "either you leave or we force you out". since i had enough credits, i went to the school board with an early graduation request, which they willingly approved. in addition to kicking me out, they took me to court where a judge remanded me to 1000 hours of community service for (of all things) the it department at my school, and restricted my access to all computers with any form of internet connection for a period not to exceed the length of time i could have been issued as a jail sentence. the amount of time he gave was 145 days. this amount of time has recently elapsed, and my arrival at college also signifies my return to internet use.------------------ Posted by demonk on Sep. 03 2001,21:36
Funny as hell prank, but pretty damn stupid not to have fixed it the same day you did it. All things concidered, you were lucky. Anyway, welcome back to cyberspace.------------------ Posted by jay on Sep. 04 2001,02:22
the link isnt "mysteriously dead" it just has a comma at the end so it doesnt open to the right page..and you call your self the observer..

i appreciate the warm welcome. i was expecting kuru or someone similar to tear me a new asshole about the whole thing, since she apparently had some loving things to say about my being screwed announcement. oh, well. i somehow suspect that my misposting of that link qualifies me to still be considered a dumbass. ------------------ Posted by JLb_8 on Sep. 04 2001,19:20
the sudden influx of noobies and "questionable posts" seemed to have caused a few glory hunters to jump ship.------------------ Posted by CatKnight on Sep. 04 2001,23:47

Well it seems as if some of the regulars on this thing were getting a little pissy at some of the assinine posts of newbies and other incompetent, incoherent people. So as a courtesy to the regular posters (and to stop them from leaving) Cr0 started the senior lounge.------------------ Posted by peregrin on Sep. 05 2001,20:07
quote: no, this site was started by people who didn't consider themselves autocool, and made a point to make coherent posts, perhaps even relevant ones. they made this a place where people could come to say important things, where people could ask for advice without, heaven forbid, being ripped on. and while this site and forum were designed around geek humor, there is always the fact that people knew when to shut the fuck up, which doesn't seem to be a trait that many newbies possess. ------------------ Posted by JLb_8 on Sep. 05 2001,20:19
thats the bitch about becoming mainstream. it isnt "special" anymore what were you expecting ffs------------------ Posted by [liquid] meta on Sep. 05 2001,21:51
This quote seems to come to mind.
quote: I like that stunt, i should try it but I refuse to touch the macs we have in my school. It took them so long because they probably wanted to do every computer in one shot instead of going to each of them. That and they had to schedule downtime. (I'm guessing) Posted by peregrin on Sep. 05 2001,22:47
nono, you misunderstand, i didn't change the pointing addresses on the individual machines, i changed the address on the servers and print servers. they could have changed them back and it would have been no big deal, but i guess they're morons or something. edit: by the way, how does one get invited to the senior lounge? ------------------ "i like to skate on the other side of the ice" -steve wright please feel free to ignore anything i happen to incoherently utter, because, yes, i am a pompus ass. i'm still laughing about that, hehe. oh and the senior lounge... beats me. guess somebody has to think you're cool enough.
