I thought this year my textbooks would be cheap since I already have my math book from last year, and I thought I had my physics book from last year. That left 2 classes, so 2-3 books, 赨 max. Turns out I did need a new physics book, along with a lab book, and also 4 books for compsci and e mech. The e mech books were over 赨 by themselves, used!. The comsci books were also close to 赨. My physics books are going to end up being around 贄 total, so that makes a grand total of around 躔! This, for a 'easy' year in which I'm only taking 4 classes and 1 of them I already had the book! Grr...

How many bookstores are on your campus? If there's just one then you really get screwed over because the University has to take their cut from sales. Add in a few independent stores and prices start to drop a little more. Then there's the whole area of buying your books online. I've never done that, but I have heard good things from my friends who have.

pssst ... photocopy it and return it!

My grad level diff-e-screw book is like 50 bucks ... friend and I are conspiring ...

Posted by CatKnight on Aug. 20 2001,18:30
if there is highlighting in it then I'll be even more pissed because I really don't like highlighters. they are extremely disctracting and cause me to not remember anything I read.

can't u like get them off on lend from the library or just get some freinds from ur course together and chip in to share some books. good incentive to work then cos ur around people who can help each other with coursework and stuff

EDIT: Also just rip off the magnetic tag and nick the book if the library has more than one copy

That sucks... luckily in High School I don't have to buy my books because we get them from school. But I guess next year at university I'll spend hundreds of dollars on books... why did I have to choose to study something with "a lot of books"?

Photocopying sounds pretty good. Or sharing a book with your roommate.

when i get my books next year i'll scan any stuff for you if you want it. i got a whole 3 storey library to find whatever book ya need

well today I went to take back 2 textbooks. one was a matlab book which it turns out I didn't need, which I bought last week (so it was still good for a full refund). the other was part 2 of a physics book that I kept from last year that I never used, but I thought I needed it. On the reciept was listed part 3 of the physics book which I bought, so when I returned the books they gave me a full refund for both because they didn't look carefully enough at the reciept. This has been a great day for getting free stuff!

Speaking of free stuff:
I just got over 趆 worth of books today for free! I'm in this program where high school students take college classes at a local community college and recieve high school and college credit for them. And the best part about it? The State pays for it all. I'm taking my first year of college math and english along with some networking classes for free.

I hate you.

I went to buy my 軸 in books today, and out of 3 bookstores, none of them had the cisco lab manual.

Turns out some bullshit Industrial Technology class decided to use it too at the last minute, so those students picked up most of the copies.

calm down jeez it's not like you will need a book in the first 2 classes, the bookstore will get more in. and if you do just pair up with some hottie in the class and be like "yo i dont have a book can we do homework together"

CK, there was a time when I thought you had a brain, I have rethought that conclusion in respect to your last few posts regarding me.

First of all law school isn't undergraduate so I dont have three days of classes where the professor tells me how he is running his class and when the tests are etc. I have work in ALL of my classes already. All my classes only have one test, the final, if I fail it I fail the class. A class like contracts goes the full year with only one tests- (Read: two semesters ONE FINAL) you think you are such hot shit because you are majoring in fucking physics- go test yourself with some analytical thinking, I bet you couldn't write your way out of a paper bag. Another thing, stop thinking that because you are 19 years old you have all the damn answers!

I had enough of your baby "im better than everyone here" shit. Truth? You arent! You are a sophomore in COLLEGE for christ sakes what can you possibly know about a graduate program? I have decided that there are several HS guys on here who have more intelligence and maturity than you do CK. I've had enough and honestly I don't think I am the only one.

Can I get a hell yeah?

First...amen Chrissy. I too am in a graduate program. I walked into my first day of 620 and the very first thing the prof said was, "As of right now, you are approximately 500 pages behind in your reading." Hard to wait to buy the books when things are like that. (And I haven't bought any of the "recommended" stuff...only required.

Second, I'd be all for finding some "hottie" in my class, only problem is, it's a high-tech program and those tend to be sadly lacking in the lovely ladies department.

And third: HELL YEAH!

I like the ones that come with the entire book on a CD-Rom stapled to the back cover. Those ALWAYS get returned for some reason.

Gee, must be horrible to have to spend money to become part of one of the highest paid professions in the world.

P.S. Haha, just graduated.

Do a higher degree by research. No books to buy. Just papers to read.
