When the Pentimun 4's came out I decited I wanted to go buy a new computer. So I go and buy one for 񘧸! (I asked for the best they had) I'm like ya I'm cool now, I got an expensive computer!! I ROCK!!

Well about a month later I get a phone call from my brother-in-law saying that he bought the same exact computer as me cept he didn't get a new monitor. I'm like cool, whadya pay for it, and hes like ũ,500...and I'm like OMG!!!

That just really pisses me off! I mean what's the point? I should have just waited a month and paid a grip less! The shity thing is I'm gonna be paying for this computer for years!!

That'll learn ya.

Seriously, the two important questions when someone wants to buy a new prebuilt computer are 1) How much do you want to spend, and 2) How long can you wait?

hehe you are gonna get flamed for buying:

a)state of the art (wait a month, save 50\%)
b)at best buy (buy online, save 50\%)
c)a whole system (buy components, save 50\%)

So you spend 񘧸 on a machine that could have been purchased for 辎. Just to compare with my computer that I bought in May:

AMD 1.2 Ghz: 贶
Abit Mobo: 贶
Geforce2 Ultra: 趚
20 gig hd: 贶
Santa Cruz: ๛
100baseT nic: ฤ
256 pc133: ์
keyboard+optical mouse+17" tritron (at best buy): 跌
case+300watt ps: 贄

total: ~񘋰

This was for the equivalent of a full system, which is probably faster then what you got, back in May. Sorry

edit: forgot hard drive

Moral of this story:

Intel CPUs are VERY overpriced when they first come out. You will also pay a HUGE FUCKING PREMIUM to have the very best from Intel. It's the way they work.

You bought a pre-built system. HAHA!
Next time, buy the parts and pay a friend to make it. And watch him. And then you'll be able to do it from then on.

P4s at that time made you have RDRAM. Again, a new technology, again, you pay the Fucking Premium(tm).

You have 3 lessons to learn here, glasshopper;

1. Never buy cutting-edge.
2. Never buy pre-built.
3. Unless you absolutely need to; go AMD.

NEVER buy a prebuilt system. That or get one and modify whatever it comes with!

Btw, bestbuy ships all over north america right?

Ok well I would have glady paid someone I knew to build me a computer if I knew someone that could do that! My computer isn't that bad! I got a CD Burner, a DVD drive, Pentium 4 1.3 GHZ, 60GB hard drive, a networking card, a cam, speakers and a sub woofer, a photo printer, a 17 inch monitor, optical mouse, an internet keyboard, and a pretty good graphics card from what I can see. Oh and a scanner. I'm not a pro when it comes to computers so don't flame me because I don't know all the things you all know please!

DarkAngel - They told you a 1.3GHz P4 was top of the line???? Damn those people!!! 1.3GHz was the LOW END of the P4's even when it was introduced. Best Buy is the most OVERPRICED store I've ever been in, and I know a lot of people who got burned there.

Example : The อ they want for a 6' gold-plated shielded printer cable. And they ONLY carry shielded, gold plated printer cables. I can get a plain old 6' printer cable for Ű.95 at my local mom & pop computer shop, and it works just fine. It's not gold plated, but when was the last time you heard someone say "damn, the contacts in this printer cable just aren't good enough, and all this RF interference is messing up my printing"?

Anyway, the moral of this is - DON'T SHOP AT BEST BUY. Also, if you need help with building and/or modding stuff, you can always post in the Geek Forum. There are always a few people that will respond with helpful advice.

Best Buy is pretty fucking leet provided you know the difference between a good sale and an overpriced POS. They have a shitload of cheap stuff (between instore and manufacturers rebate) and it's about 10 mins from my house.

Hehe, I'm a little on the inside at Intel (read: I work there), so I know a little about what is coming down the line. Needless to say, the P4s are going to look REALLY nice very soon. That whole Ramcrap shit is gone with the Brookdale+ chipset in January 2002(I know, it should be now, but I have no control over that (read: I'm an intern)). The new 300mm process is going to kick major ass! And Northwood will be the bread and butter very soon. Now, all of this is common knowledge, so I'm not giving away trade secrets. But I do know a few other things that make me believe that Intel is definatly going to give AMD a very hard competition. Bottom line: the customer will win big time with cheap, fast chips. Yay capitalism!

Tell me if this wasn't bad for just a computer (no monitor, printer)

񘍔
Amd T-bird 1.3
128 megs ram
40 gig hd.
dvd-rom (16x48x)
cd-rw (12x8x32x)
software (works suite, some atlas thing, easy cd creator 4)
4 usb ports
networking card, 56k modem.
cambridge soundworks speakers (didn't start using them til about 2 weeks ago when one of my old speakers (3x5 speakers, 1x2 speakers, and built in subwoofer) seemingly died out. You could feel the air being blown out, it was great.

and recently I spent ุ on getting new ram (it was overpriced, i soon found out) so i'm up to 256 megs of ram. pcc133
i also threw in an old harddrive.

it was a gateway.

Cambridge speakers rule all.

On the question: It depends, did you do that whole upgrade your PC in this many years for this much or is it just that? I never buy PCs from companies because I can only afford to upgrade one thing at a time . It sounds like a good deal based on other prices for entire computers. It often works out cheaper if you're willing to put it together though.

I'm sorry, but cambridge speakers are trash. The only ones I can reccomend are the lowest end ones, just because they are cheap and better then "multimedia speakers".

Well maybe you can explain why they let the P4 go to market with its blatent erroring in floating-point operatons? what is it like the 5th decimal place it starts to miscalculate? Intel FINALLY changes the architecute they'd beejn using since the Pentium Pro, and they fux0r it all up. AMD is cheaper and more reliable.
well maybe the next processer won't error past the 5th decimal place, Intel is overpriced, overclocked, shitty shit shit. AMD all the way baby!

I have never heard of a FPU problem like that with the P4. Believe me, if that was true, I would know about it. Hell, everyone would no about it! No, the only real problem with the P4 right now is the integer unit. It can be better than it currently is. But that is supposed to be fixed in the next version.

I rather like my cambridge speakers, which aren't trash. They're crystal clear at as loud as I can take them (don't ask me how many watts they are, I don't know). Good things come in small packages...

Actually, the most expensive cambridge speakers have 28watts (7watts x 4 satellites) + 21watts (center channel) + 30watts (sub woofer) = 79watts total power. They don't completely suck, but in my opinion the klipsches are still much better speakers for the price... especially the new < 5.1 klipsches >.. mmm... 500watts total power..

the most expensive model is 28 watts total. they cost 赨. for 跌 you can get 400 watt klipsches. cambridge soundworks is pretty much on the same level as < bose >, although they aren't too overpriced.

ps read that bose link if you would like to find out how much they really suck.

Or, you could get speakers that don't suck... *cough*Altec Lansing*cough*

or you could just get some nice headphones and save yourself some power/ear damage/ambient interference/money

i don't like these cambridge speakers.
they're tiny, maybe 20 watts of power, and the sound is weird. they also have a mounted cord that i don't feel like playing with, thus they can't be too far apart.

my no name speakers cost about ุ (computer show) 5 years ago. they are 180 watts, 5 foot chord between them. i want to get a longer chord.
