My DSL gateway went dead at approximately 4:00pm yesterday. So I call tech support. Even though THEY couldn't see the gateway either, I had to go thru all the regular questions for dumbasses. I didn't even check my shit, I just told them the right answers... and all they could say is "we'll have to call you back tomorrow and check your settings some more." So I decided to call 611 and asked for a line check. The dude said "yeah, I got a sync" meaning my modem was working properly... and before I could even ask him about the gateway, he said "your gateway is down. I can't get a ping or a traceroute. I'll write up a trouble ticket and we'll get it back on line for you." THAT'S WHAT I WAS TELLING TECH SUPPORT ALL ALONG... AND THEY KNEW MY GATEWAY WAS DOWN!!! SO WHY THE FUCK DID THEY MAKE ME GO THRU ALL THE OTHER BULLSHIT??????? Anyway, here's a tip - if you have DSL problems and you know damn well it's the phone company's problem, DON'T CALL TECH SUPPORT - call 611 and ask for a line check. God bless the REAL technicians!!! how many times did they tell you to power down your computer, unplug your modem, plug your modem back in and start up your computer? That's all those dumbasses tell you to do. Then they almost shit their pants after I tell them it's a linux box...

btw, if you have problems with the PPoE versions of DSL, < use RASPPoE >. It's tiny and works flawlessly, unlike EnterNet.

KL1NK - You can't goddamned tell *ANYBODY* it's a Linux box! I called bellsouth.net (my 56k ISP) the other day, to make sure the service was using PAP (this is related to my trouble in the geeks forum about 2.4.1 and ppp0), and the guy freaked out. I asked "PAP, P-A-P. The auth codes to dialin uses PAP, right?" and he freaked out with "what's PAP? Let me go talk to the other techs"... then I told him it was a linux box, and an I was upgrading my kernel and in the process needed to know what service the dialins were... the moment "lin-ah" came out of my mouth, he freaked. And I remember last year they were saying they were gonna have support for linux... I call just last week, and the only options are "press one for Windows, press two for Mac"... ------------------ |
