or at least, anyone in the US does. it recently emmerged that British Telecom (see my earlier post on them for reasons not to like them) own the patent in the usa on hyperlinks. this isn't a wind up, a joke, or anything. they own the copyright. they got it in 1989 and will have it until 2006.--directhex ------------------ Posted by kuros- on Jun. 22 2000,12:34
Another instance of the money-grabbing MS-like company - we call BT.Old news really, I believe they are in the federal court at the moment waiting for a landmark verdict - it seems as if they might win as well. Only Popular sites will be hit but bills could be around £5000+ Posted by Willy Pete on Jun. 22 2000,16:03
Another fine BT idea. If anyone reads slashdot here, it's nothing new. BT must have seens others do it and ran to their patent archives and came up winners. I don't think they'll get it, but who knows?Another problem with them: I looked at getting the ADSL when it's in my area, but my friend at an ISP (who also provides it but BT owns the lines) that you don't get your own line. Essentially, they wait until 50 people in your area ask for it and then install it, you all have 24/7 connection at high speed but it's split 50 ways. So bang goes the arguement that it's 10 times faster! It's technically 5 times slower if all 50 people d/load at the same time. BT just rely on the fact that this won't happen in homes. Wankers. ------------------ Posted by DuSTman on Jun. 22 2000,21:15

as someone who got a second "line" from them (i.e. a split line capped at 28.8) i have yet to find any reason to LIKE the fuckers.or yet to find anyone else who does. --directhex p.s. patent number 4873662. read it in the paper yesterday. ------------------ Posted by XaSERaX on Jun. 23 2000,05:29
