Forum: Rants Topic: why are the people at best buy so dumb? started by: neotope Posted by neotope on Jun. 20 2000,02:44
I mean come on now. I go into the computer department and I ask them an easy question and they just bullshit me telling me complete garbage. Do they train this people to be idiots. You would think a person selling computers would atleast know about what they where selling.

I made a media school project once, about salesmen. This resulted in a 20 mins video with interviews and all kinds of stuff. The video turned out to be the funniest one ever made on the school. When seeing the video it was so obvious that the salesmen where lying to promote stuff they couldn't sell if they told the truth. We even sent the movie to some educated psychiatrists and made them analyze their behavior. This resulted in a letter to the "consumer obudsman", that in the end made an official statement about a discussion of a new law in DK about NOT bullshitting people.

the reason people who work at best buy are so dumb is because they wouldnt hire me. im sorry if i have no official experience working with computers (7 years, since i was 9)and im sorry if i have no formal education (10+ classes in computer repair alone) and im sorry if most of what i do all day is the same as the listed activities for the job. i also have never lied about something i told someone to buy, and usually they do buy it.best buy wouldnt know someone with skills if i beat the living shit out of them with one of their intellimouses. I once let a friend take his pc into a local high street store never again - (I was on holiday elsewhere but I still feel gulity)they tried to put in a video card by using GLUE, yes thats right glue.Thats not stupid, thats moronic ! Posted by Wolfguard on Jun. 20 2000,13:36
what, no duct tape?kidding I have seen glue used to hold cables in so they could see if you tampered with it. ------------------ Posted by Chrissy on Jun. 20 2000,17:01
HAHA..that is a joke right? It's retail...the chances you know more then they do are far greater then the other way around. I guess pray you know what you need enuff not to ask one of their morons. And actually I do think they train them to be overly stupid otherwise how could you account for the high proportion of them in the sales section....just doesn't seem there would be that MANY stupid people in existance in the world...wait a take that back ------------------ Posted by Hellraiser on Jun. 20 2000,21:22
Stupidest thing I've ever seen is someone bought an OEM CPU (PIII 450) and a heatsink, and used electrical tape to hold the heatsink to the CPU in their system: the thing burned out in less than a day. And he was a software salesman at Best Buy. I would have thought that with the exposure to computers that he'd had he would have known better!------------------ Posted by neotope on Jun. 20 2000,21:58
Good point Hellraiser. You would think if these people know nothing when they started the job that they would eventually have to learn something if they sell computer 5 days a week.

i wonder if he realized electrical tape is for keeping electricity in, not out.

Not to mention the rip off at the checkout counter. "Would you like Best Buy's warranty?" "No, I'd rather burn my money." The warranty is bullshit. Most goods have a warranty already, and it's better than Best Buy's. NEVER GET THE WARRANTY if you buy from those jackals.

unless you dont have to pay for it...my mom buys warrantees on everything i buy...weve never used one...but oh well

i think circuit city is just as bad, those mutherfuckers, i bought the intellimouse there and it broke after 2 weeks, one day over the allowed return time. they wouldnt let me till i was so pissed and the manager was like ok for the switch. Then they said it would be about 2 wks before the new order came in. i came back after the 2 wks and they said it wasnt in yet, but funny. the shelf was stocked. so i took it up, told the lady i was taking it and left. setting off the alarm, the manager came out and i explained. after a min he said i could leave, with the alarm still beeping

Just so you know, I very recently started working at CompUSA so I'm one of the "idiots" that this rant is about. Go ahead and complain--that's what this place is for--but I hope you realize that it takes time to learn the products. There doesn't seem to be any way around this, so customers really just have to put up with it until the salesmen finally know their stuff. But right now, about 90\% of the employees at my store are very capable when it comes to computers.
quote: For a โ item you can get a TAP (Technology Assurance Plan) for about ŭ. Considering you can simply bring back that defective product to whatever store you want it's a really good deal for novice computer users (and the lazy elite). Manufacturer warranties generally require you to cover the mailing charges necessary for you to send the product to the company and involve waiting for the product to arrive, be fixed or replaced, and be sent back. Some people don't want that inconvenience. At CompUSA we get a small commission for each TAP we sell so we're definitely going to offer it, not only to help out the customer, but also to help out ourselves.

What is "Best Buy"?? Is that anything like "Future Shop"? (Home appliances, home theatre/stereo equipment, cd's, DVD's, lots of computer stuff, software, etc.)And moving away from the issue of salespeople, and towards the issue of returns, etc., please don't get mad at the cashiers if you are trying to return anything and they refuse. I am a cashier at a large superstore near where I live, and we are told by our supervisors specifically how to deal with anything... if someone comes up and starts bitching at us to do something that we can't, we have no choice. We are not allowed to "give in" to someone having a temper tantrum. The best solution is to go right to the management to state your case... the supervisors, customer service, etc. Don't bitch at the cashiers just because they are doing their job... if they (we) don't, it's our asses on the line. -FFox ------------------ |
