I agree with you Crissy. In my experience, the vast majority of people I've talked to who really like Kid Rock are 12-16 year old boys who think they are k3wl homeboys if they listen to Kid Rock. Lets face the facts - the entire music industry these days is geared towards the gold mine that is the 12-20 spectrum. These are the years when kids tend to listen to whatever is popular "just because", but have plenty of disposable income to buy music. Once people start getting towards their 20's, they start listening to their own types of music (usually).

I think the huge success of crappy bands like Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, etc. reinforces this idea.

Yes, I listen to popular music. Yes, I'm one of those who listen to some of those boy bands/girl clones. Listen and some being the operative words. That's a big chunk of what is played on the stations I listen to. Those are the only stations with good enough reception to reach my walkman without static. And after a while, after enough saturation, you get numb and even start to bop along. (Yes, guilty)

It seems in this instance tho, that I'm not missing out on anything. But I still can't help asking: Who?

But yes, I'm aussie. Hard sometimes as it seems that people are talking a different language. If you think american clones are bad... hmmm... was going to say that there are worse here, but i can only think of 1 (atm) "girl group" S2S. And probably Sirens(??) and Bardot.

Can you imagine, they actually made a TV series of making a pop group? They auditioned countless of hopefuls, slimmed it down to 5, thrown in a couple of controversies about some of the members. All on screen. Bardot. I won't inflict that pain on you. But the show was a big favourite with a few ppl. For most guys, something/one to perve at, for most girls either to gawk at and be jealous or to lambast them (prolly because they were jealous too ;) But of course, I'm beyond all that *snicker* Good publicity/exposure tho.

Limp Bizkit's first album was pretty cool, altho that "Faith" song was just fag0t. Anyways, they figured if they set their guitars to "pussy", and didn't really rap anymore, they just sort of made vague rhymes, they'd appeal to a "wider audience", i.e.; there are more idiots in America than there are people with taste. (Also, anyone notice ALL their songs follow the exact same formula? Listen to a few, if you can stand it, you'll see what I mean)

What really gets me is they didn't NEED to, they just wanted more money. Who cares if they'll be around for longer or not? They want money NOW. I mean, look at White Zombie. They didn't tone down at ALL (they got even louder, IMO) and they were around for 13 years. Plus Rob Zombie is basically the same band, just a little more techno on some songs.

It's like a song on the newest NOFX disc called "Dinosaurs Will Die" (referring to their hope for the demise of the music industry )... one of my favorite lines in it is "...we're gonna kill the seven record deal, and make records that have more than one good song..."

It's so true. All the latest, most popular bands put out a disc with 1 or 2 hugely popular songs, and then 10 tracks of pure shit. Is that part of their contract? "I promise to make 2 good songs, plus 10 songs of 100\% suckage..."

If anyone has a free minute, I recommend taking a listen to the song (you can find it easily on Napster).

About Limp Bizkit and the record company shit, i kinda hear you about their records having a lot of shit on them and only a few songs. But not all groups' albums are like that. Also, a good way we have of fighting that is Napster: we don't buy the shitty albums w/ 1 good song, we just download the 1 song and screw the record companies.
