Obviously people's tastes are going to differ.Heres my little, somewhat insane list:
1. Braveheart. }
}BIG fan of medieval.
2. Gladiator }
3. The Matrix
4. Stargate
5. Sixth Sense
I loved Stargate.. forget SG-1 or any of that shit, Stargate was THE Sci-Fi for me at the time.
Some other favourites include Blade, and when I really want to laugh I watch Hackers.. what a comedy!
Oh, and anything with Eddie Murphy, love that guy.
BTW, was it just me or was Mission Impossible 2 really shit?

Actually a danish movie called "I Kina Spiser De Hunde" is in the above list somewhere, but as, I guess, none of you knows it I put in an american one. The title means "In China They Eat Dogs". It's the funniest movie I've ever seen!

The Matrix was just awesome, no explanation neccesary.
Saving Private Ryan is, in my opinion, the finest war movie ever made.
Holy Grail showed that British comedy is really good, and it's one of those movies that EVERYONE loves. Well almost everyone...
Clerks was the first major movie from Kevin Smith (Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma). It's in black and white, and it only had a budget of like ฤk or something, but it's still probably my favorite Kevin Smith movie. It is just hilarious. And don't be turned off by the black and white factor... if you decide not to see a movie just because of it's film type, you are a moron.
Run Lola Run- You may or may not have heard of this, but it's a German movie that was released in North America about a year ago (in small theatres). It's all subtitled, but trust me, after about 10 minutes, you will barely even notice. I can't even describe the movie, it's just simply awesome. If you are into Techno music, you will love it all the more. Rent it some time.
Honorable mentions- Slap Shot- Still the best hockey movie ever made, even though the story line involving Paul Newman was pointless and boring.
The Star Wars Trilogy (and even the new movie)- These are great movies to watch if you just want to sit back for a few hours and click off your brain. Tried and true.
Braveheart and Gladiator- Both great movies, but Braveheart was better, and had a better plot (party because it was true).

5. Ep 1 - i think the thing that makes it cool is the sounds. bzzzt, whvvvrrrmmm just really gets you excited. that and the soundtrack
6. The other star wars - these ones were good for the quotes, something Ep 1 was lacking greatly in (theres always a bigger fish?? cmon!)
7. Face off - awesome action in here, horrible concept, entirely unbelievable, but it was still cool to watch
So its not 5 movies, sue me.
oh, and honorable mention to braveheart of course. the whole thing with honor and freedom and stuff is cool. I think its cuz honor like doesnt exist today, freedom is taken for granted. i'll rant on this in another post soon, but i need more time cuz itll be long. also look for a homework rant, ive already got it written, i was waiting for some outlet to post it on, and det.net provided it.

Two Hands: An Australian film that was surprisingly good.
Those are the films (all on the top of my head) that I can sit down and watch at any time. I deliberately didn't mention the StarWars episodes as my brother would watch that continuously anyway :) I'm sure there are more... (Sliding Doors and Pride and Prejudice [by the BBC] for the girlie that I am :)

The last two need explanation. Devil's Advocate because Al Pacino is a total badass and fully fulfills my kierkegaard quote on the quotes list. Definately not for Keanu Reeves' less than stellar performance. Seven because Kevin Spacey is just awesome. He was crazy in a way that redefines crazy. Brad Pitt is the same as Reeve's in the last one, but somewhat better. If you like Pacino watch Glengarry Glen Ross; for Spacey try High Fidelity, which I'm assuming is where the top five thing came from if it wasn't off that blurb on FiringSquad that came from High Fidelity...
